Nicolas Echavarria won for the second time on the PGA Tour by finishing one shot ahead of Justin Thomas and Max Greyserman at the Zozo Championship.
The Colombian carded a final-round 67 to win for the first time since the 2023 Puerto Rico Open.
“It was very close all day, it was fun. (Thomas and Greyserman) got off to a hot start and it was very level during the last, I don’t know, 13 holes or 10 holes,” Echavarria said. “Max played great. Justin has been playing incredible, he hit a lot of good putts that didn’t go in. But overall, it was special to finish birdie-par-birdie and take this home.
“It’s the second win on the PGA Tour; not a lot of people get to win two times on the PGA Tour. I’m just going to enjoy this as much as I can and get ready for the next one.”
The tournament was also co-sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour. This allowed players like Kensei Hirata, Ren Yonezaw and Ryo Ishikawa to compete at a big event for big prize money in their home country.
The Zozo Championship attracted a top field in 2024 given its location and variety. Defending champion Morikawa was back for more, as was Xander Schauffele, Sahith Theegala, Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Max Homa and Rickie Fowler.
In 2019, the inaugural playing of the event, Tiger Woods won his 82nd PGA Tour title and drew level with Sam Snead at the top of the all-time tour wins leaderboard. He beat home favourite Matsuyama by three shots and won $1,755,000 in the process.
While the FedEx Cup Fall Series continues, this was certainly one event that attracted a better field than previous weeks at the Black Desert Championship and the Shriners Children’s Open which was won by J.T Poston.

There are three more events to be played as part of the main PGA Tour schedule which ends at the RSM Classic at the end of November. By the end of the FedEx Cup Fall, each player will want to be in the top 125 in the FedEx Cup rankings to regain their PGA Tour cards for 2025.
The top 150 players will earn conditional status and players such as Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson and Cameron Champ currently sit outside of the top 150. Daniel Berger, Joel Dahmen and Gary Woodland are teetering on the edge of the top 125 too.
