The first round of the PGA Championship is always an exciting day in golf. It is the start of another major championship and a chance to see a new star born in the sport.
In 2025, Scottie Scheffler won at Quail Hollow. He held off a resurgent Jon Rahm to win his third major title, and it was one of two majors that he won in 2025. He would go on to win The Open Championship at Royal Portrush and continue his dominance of the men’s game.
It is the second major championship of the year. It is now played in May when it used to be in August and carry the name of ‘Glory’s Last Shot’. It also contains a very large field of stars from the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, the LIV Golf League and also the very best PGA Professionals in the United States.
Aronimink hasn’t hosted the PGA Championship since 1962, when Gary Player won. It has hosted the Women’s PGA Championship more recently, as well as a PGA Tour event.
In the first round, defending champion Scheffler has been drawn to play with Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose. Rory McIlroy has been drawn to play with Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm.

The first round of a major tournament is absolutely crucial. If you don’t get off to a good start, you are immediately on the back foot and have too much ground to make up. It isn’t impossible to come from behind to win this event, as we saw with Justin Thomas defying a seven-shot gap in the final round in 2022, but day one is crucial.
