It’s D-Day for our Wanamaker Trophy hopefuls. After three days of sensational scoring around Valhalla, the destiny of the year’s second major is set to be decided.

So how do the key contenders line up? Who is playing together and who could still make a late charge?

Play will get underway at 7:45am ET / 12:45pm BST. Jeremy Wells, one of two PGA Professionals to make it through to the weekend, will hit the first tee shot, and he will play alongside Argentina’s Alejandro Tosti.

Thomas Detry, the first of those players within five shots of the lead, will tee off at 1:15pm ET / 6:15pm BST alongside Lucas Herbert.

Justin Thomas and Tony Finau will go off at 1:35pm ET / 6:35pm BST, while the formidable Ryder Cup duo of Justin Rose and Robert MacIntyre will tee off half an hour later. The British duo play at 2:05pm ET / 7:05pm BST.

Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland will play together, while Shane Lowry and Sahith Theegala are alongside each other in the penultimate group.

The final pairing will see overnight leaders Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa play together. They will begin their final round at 2:35pm ET / 7:35pm BST.

What a day we had at Valhalla on Saturday.

We have two tied for the lead after 54 holes – Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa.

Sahith Theegala, Shane Lowry, Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland are within three shots. Nine more players sit within five of the lead.

And don’t forget about Shane Lowry’s ridiculous 62 to tie the record for the lowest ever round in a men’s major championship!

The final three have completed their third rounds at the PGA Championship, and it’s still anyone’s game!

All three men in the final group make birdie on the 18th hole. That means we have a two-way tie at the top after 54 holes.

Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele will be in the final group on Sunday, with the pair sitting at -15.

Sahith Theegala is one shot back at -14, with 12 more players within five shots of the lead going into the final round!

The 2020 US Open Champion has joined the party!

Bryson DeChambeau chips in for an incredible eagle on the par 5 18th to move to 13-under, joining Shane Lowry and Xander Schauffele.

Just a minute late, Viktor Hovland two-putts for birdie on the last to join that trio.

DeChambeau, Hovland and Lowry are the clubhouse leaders, with the final group playing the 17th as we speak.

The 15th hole on Saturday could go down as one of the turning points of this championship!

Xander Schauffele, the overnight leader, came to the 15th tee with a two shot lead. However, an approach that went left into the thick stuff, a hack out and then a chip and two putts saw the World No 3 make double bogey to drop back to -13.

Sahith Theegala was three shots behind on the tee, but he chipped in for a birdie to join Schauffele and clubhouse leader Lowry.

Morikawa would come away from the 15th in the lead, though, as his birdie moved him to 14-under, and one shot clear.

Following his record-equalling round, Shane Lowry spoke to Sky Sports. He knows it went well, but he’s looking for more major glory come Sunday evening in Kentucky.

“I just went out there with the hope of trying to get myself towards double digits. I thought if I could get to 10-under today, I could give myself somewhat of a chance going into tomorrow,” the Irishman said.

“I went out and got a great start, rolling putts in, felt great, kept going and really enjoyed it. Myself and Justin [Rose], we had a great day out there and I enjoyed every minute of it. It is pretty cool to do something like this but obviously there is a lot more to do tomorrow.

“We both birdied four of the first five holes and I was laughing because I couldn’t get the tee off him, I couldn’t get the honour off him. Every time I made a birdie, he made a birdie as well. It was just an enjoyable day, one of those days that you’ll remember and yeah, it was good.”

When asked about Sunday, and how he could use his major winning experience, the Irishman said: “I need to go out tomorrow, fight hard and fight to the very end.

“I have been in this position a few times before and once it has gone my way, a couple of times it hasn’t. I know what to do, I go out and give it everything I have and hopefully at the end of the day, it’s pretty good!”

Now we’ve all calmed down after watching another slice of history, where does Shane Lowry stand in the tournament?

Following that amazing 62, he is currently in a tie for 2nd and just a shot back.

Xander Schauffele continues to lead, with Collin Morikawa level with the Irishman. A birdie on the last for Justin Rose moved him to 12-under and two back, with a total of 12 players within four of the lead at this current moment.

An incredible round of golf! Although the birdie putt on 18 narrowly slides by the left edge, Shane Lowry has still played his way into the record books.

The Irishman already had a major 63 to his name, doing so on home soil at Royal Portrush on his way to winning the Open Championship in 2019.

He would go one better on Saturday afternoon at Valhalla, tying the men’s major record with an amazing round of golf, albeit in good scoring conditions.

Lowry went through Saturday without a blemish on his scorecard, in what would be one of the best rounds of his career.

Playing alongside Jason Day and Ryder Cup teammate Justin Rose, Lowry started strongly, with five birdies in his opening seven holes. He made another birdie on 9 to make the turn in 29.

Three more birdies on the back nine saw him go down the 18th with a chance of breaking the men’s major record. Unfortunately, the putt slipped by, but Lowry joins Branden Grace, Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele as the only men to have ever shot 62 in a men’s major!

There will be a birdie putt for Lowry to break the men’s major record.

What a shot from Shane to find the dance floor, and to give himself a real chance!

Can he do it?

After pushing his drive into the right rough down 18, Lowry pulls his layup after deciding against going for the green with his second shot.

The Irishman’s ball finds the first cut, meaning he won’t be able to get the desired spin on his ball with his third.

Can he stuff it in close and give himself a chance of shooting a 61?

The 2019 Open champion is now 9-under for the day…

A par at the last to tie the men’s major record of 62, a birdie would break the record!

Xander Schauffele (twice), Rickie Fowler and Branden Grace are the three men to have shot 62 in a men’s major championship in the past, with one of Schauffele’s efforts coming on Thursday morning at Valhalla.

His drive down 18 finds the right rough.. A lay up and one of those special Irish wedges to the green.. It’s still on!

Tony Finau is making his move on Saturday afternoon!

The American has birdied his last four holes to move to 11-under, two behind current leader Xander Schauffele.

Taylor Moore has also birdied his last three to move to 10-under, with plenty of golfers starting to move up the leaderboard.

As it stands:

Schauffele -13; Lowry, Morikawa -12; Rose, Finau -11; Moore, MacIntyre, Burmester, English, Hovland, DeChambeau, Detry -10

Shane Lowry is 8-under through 14 holes. Two more birdies in his last four and we would see the first ever 61 in a men’s major championship!

The Irishman went out in 29, thanks to six birdies in his opening nine holes at Valhalla on Saturday afternoon.

Add in birdies at 13 and 14 and the 2019 Open Champion is now 8-under for his round and staring down the record.

For a brief moment, he also tied the lead, but a birdie on 7 for Xander Schauffele puts the overnight leader back at the top!

Birdies at 7, 8, 9 and 10 have seen Rory McIlroy make huge strides up the leaderboard and into the top ten.

The Northern Irishman started slowly, and while others were making birdies around him, he could only manage to be level par through six holes.

However, the four-time major champion clicked into groove on the par 5 7th, and from there, he has been riding the birdie train!

Elsewhere, a birdie on the 5th sees Collin Morikawa join Xander Schauffele in a tie for the lead at -12, two shots clear of the field.

With the way that Scottie Scheffler has been playing over the last few years, I never thought I would write this sentence.

The World No 1 is playing his way out of contention at this major championship!

Par-double-bogey-bogey is how the two-time Masters champion has started his day, dropping all the way back to 5-under and seven shots off the lead.

His latest escapade saw him having to drop from behind a fence, with his ball in the water hazard. Scheffler failed to get up and down, making bogey at the 4th.

The European duo of Justin Rose and Shane Lowry have started the third round in incredible form.

The pair are both 5-under-par through their first eight holes on Saturday, and both have moved into the top ten on the leaderboard.

As it stands:

Schauffele -12; Morikawa -11; Rose, DeChambeau, Theegala -10; Lowry, Detry -9

The 1:40pm ET / 6:40pm BST tee time – Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala – have started their third round at Valhalla.

With the chasing pack already making birdies, these three know that they will have to go low to stay in front ahead of the final 18 holes.

How did their tee shots fare? All three find the fairway to get us started.

We’re almost through to the final tee time off the 1st.

Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala will tee off at 1:40pm ET / 6:40pm BST.

Schauffele currently leads by one from Morikawa, with Theegala a further shot back.

As it stands, Englishman Justin Rose is the closest man to the front three currently out on course. He has birdied four of his first five to reach 9-under-par.

Shane Lowry is also on a similar run, with the Irishman sitting at 7-under, five off the lead through four holes.

Seven shots back after the second round, Rory McIlroy would have been looking to start with a bang on Saturday afternoon.

He did, with a marvellous drive down the middle of the 1st fairway. However, from there, he would go on to make bogey and drop back a shot to 4-under…

McIlroy’s drive down the 2nd then goes left and finds the rough. Still a chance of finding the green, but he needs birdies if he is to get that fifth major title.

Meanwhile, JT, Keegan Bradley and Lucas Herbert are getting their third rounds underway!

The first few groups are putting plenty of circles on the card!

Tom Hoge, starting on the back nine, has birdied both 10 and 11 to make a cracking start to his third round. Playing partner Kurt Kitayama also made a 2 on the par 3 11th.

Meanwhile, on the front nine, Max Homa has found the birdie train early in his round. After a par on the 1st, he drains a long putt at the 2nd to move to 5-under, alongside Hoge.

There should be plenty of low scoring this afternoon at Valhalla, with some glorious pin positions on offer to be attacked.

The third round of the PGA Championship was officially set on its way by the bugler from the legendary Kentucky Downs racecourse.

The opening trio of Cameron Smith, Max Homa and Jordan Spieth all hit the fairway, as they aim to close the gap on the leaders.

The tee times are live for the third round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla, with the leading trio teeing off at 1:40pm ET / 6:40pm BST.

Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala will be the last group off from the 1st tee, with the PGA of America opting to go with a two-tee start for the third round to try and fit play in before sundown on Saturday.

Play gets underway at 11:28am ET / 4:28pm BST, with a blockbuster group of Cameron Smith, Jordan Spieth and Max Homa.

The second round is now in the books and there are plenty of stars that will not be featuring this weekend at Valhalla…

Jon Rahm, Matt Fitzpatrick, Ludvig Aberg – three men influential in Europe’s Ryder Cup victory at Marco Simone – have all missed out after finishing the second round at level par, one shot off the cut line.

Former PGA Champions, including Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington and Phil Mickelson, are all out as well, while last year’s hero, Michael Block, has also missed out.

Finally, after several delays, the PGA Championship has reached its halfway stage.

There were no changes at the very top of the leaderboard with the conclusion of the second round, but South African Dean Burmester did put his name into the mix, moving to 8-under with an eagle on the 18th.

Taylor Moore also moved up the leaderboard, moving to 7-under. The pair are both within five shots of the lead with 36 holes to play.

We have just 25 minutes until the start of the third round, which is scheduled to begin at 11:17am ET / 4:17pm BST.

The PGA Championship is not the only event taking place this week…

The Mizuho Americas Open is taking place on the LPGA Tour, despite several players withdrawing from the tournament through illness – one of those being the defending champion Rose Zhang.

Atthaya Thitikul leads by two after two rounds from South Korea’s So Mi Lee. Nelly Korda, aiming for her sixth win of the season, is just three back at the halfway stage.

The Ladies European Tour is in Germany this week, with the third round coming to a close around an hour ago.

Home favourite Alexandra Forsterling – the highest ranked player in the field – is tied for the lead alongside Austria’s Emma Spitz at the top on 7-under.

Elsewhere, Harry Hillier made history on the PGA Tour Americas. He became the first man in the tour’s history to card a round of 59 or better.

He did so thanks to firing in 13 birdies, coming in a run of six on his first nine, and a run of seven on his closing nine, and he leads the Inter Rapidisimo Golf Championship by five shots at the halfway stage!

Three minutes earlier than the scheduled resumption time, the second round of the PGA Championship got back underway on Saturday morning!

After a delay of two hours and 22 minutes, we are finally underway!

Will there be much change over the final few holes of the second round? Well there’s an early birdie to start for Taylor Moore, who moves up to 6-under, and just six back off the lead.

A birdie for Zac Blair on the 8th moves him to 2-under, and gives him a slight buffer going down his last hole to make the cut!

It’s happening! It really is happening! We have a time for when play will resume at the PGA Championship!

“Play of Round 2 will resume at 9:40am”

That’s 2:40pm BST, which means we might just get to that scheduled 11:17am ET / 4:17pm BST start time for the third round.

When play does resume, there will be a number of players battling to make the cut…

While there is no golf on, there is plenty else to be doing on this fine Saturday afternoon.

Some of you might well be playing in your weekly Saturday competitions, while others might be sat at home with the television on!

There’s plenty of other sport on the TV as well. It’s the final day of the Women’s Super League, there’s qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in the F1, and the League 1 Playoff Final between Bolton Wanderers and Oxford United.

In terms of us golf fans, the action gets underway shortly on Sky Sports, and hopefully play will soon resume following this fog delay!

This is looking like it could be another long day at the office. Well, the office in my house. Okay, my bedroom..

But there is a TV, so I can watch the action! Well, when it goes live on Sky Sports at 2pm…

So it isn’t going brilliantly so far today, and that’s ignoring the fact I went out and shot a 90+ in a gold leaf board competition this morning. Imagine getting up at 5:45 to shank a chip on the second hole…

Anyway, back to Valhalla. It’s foggy, very foggy.. The third round was expected to begin at 9am ET / 2pm BST, but and the PGA have announced that those will be pushed back.

“Resumption of Round 2 is delayed until further notice due to heavy fog. The resumption will be 30 minutes after conditions are playable.

“Round 3 Starting Times will now be a split tee start in groups of 3 off of #1 & #10 tees from approximately 11:17 AM – 1:40 PM.”

For us in the UK, that means that the third round should get underway at 4:17pm BST, with the last groups out at 6:40pm BST!

7:15am ET was scheduled to signal the start of play on Saturday, with the conclusion of the second round.

However, due to fog in the area, the resumption of play was delayed…

K.H. Lee and Ben Griffin both withdrew from the competition prior to the start of the third day’s play.

Both men had played 16 holes of their second rounds before the conclusion of play on Saturday evening, and were sitting at 5-over-par without a chance of making the cut line at Valhalla.

A reminder that there are just a few groups left to go back out on the course, with (now) 17 players left to finish their rounds!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t just golf that took the headlines on Friday at the PGA Championship.

There was a fatal crash just after 5am ET on the road outside Valhalla Golf Club. In the aftermath of that crash, Scottie Scheffler drove into a cordoned off zone and was arrested by police.

Tee times on day two were delayed by more than an hour in response to the crash and the troubles that golfers and fans alike were having at getting into the venue.

The rain came down throughout the early part of the day, but the scoring seemed to be better with the course playing so softly.

Following the delay, play would not be completed come sunset. Play was officially suspended at 8:41pm due to darkness.

My colleague Matt Chivers somehow managed to sum up the second day of the PGA Championship in this piece here.

The majority of the field have completed 36 holes, and it is Xander Schauffele that continues to lead.

He backed up his incredible opening round of 62 with a 3-under-par second round, moving himself one shot clear of the rest at 12-under.

Collin Morikawa was the best of the morning wave on Friday, and he is at 11-under. Sahith Theegala is a further shot back, with the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau all in close order.

The highest placed man still to finish their second round is South African Dean Burmester. The LIV Golf star, who has three wins this season (including two on the DP World Tour) is currently at -6 with two holes to finish off.

In total, there are 19 players still to finish their second rounds, before we get to the halfway stage of the competition.
