Jon Rahm is following in the footsteps of Seve Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Sergio Garcia, and he is destined to be the next Spanish great of the game.
He represented his native Spain through his amateur career, winning the European Boys’ Team Championship and the European Amateur Team Championship for his country. He then attended Arizona State University, winning 11 collegiate tournaments. Rahm won the Ben Hogan Award twice, and was the world’s leading amateur at the end of 2015, seeing him earn the Mark H. McCormack Medal. He spent 60 weeks as the No 1 on the World Amateur Golf Rankings, which was a record prior to Keita Nakajima breaking it in 2022.
Rahm has since gone on to be the World No.1 in the professional game as well, becoming just the third man to reach the top of both rankings. The Spaniard has won five Rolex Series events, the most of anyone in history. Those included three victories at the DP World Tour’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship, with his 2019 win also seeing him win the season-long Race to Dubai.
The Spaniard also has 11 wins on the PGA Tour, with the first of those coming at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2017. Rahm has gone on to win two major titles, claiming both the US Open in 2021, and the Masters Tournament in 2023. He also has top five finishes in both the PGA Championship and the Open Championship.
Rahm started 2023 in an incredible vein of form, winning four tournaments in four months, culminating in his victory at the Masters Tournament at Augusta. He also won the Sentry Tournament of Champions, the American Express and Genesis Invitational, as he battled with Scottie Scheffler to be the sport’s World No 1.
At the end of 2023, the Spaniard made the blockbuster move to become LIV Golf‘s newest major signing. He captains the brand new Legion XIII quartet in the 2024 LIV Golf campaign, with Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton joining prior to the start of the season. He would have to wait until July before he claimed his first win on the tour, which came at the JCB Golf & Country Club, with Rahm winning LIV Golf UK. Later that year, he would top off his debut campaign in the league by winning the LIV Golf Individual Championship. The Spaniard would do the same in 2025, becoming the first two-time season champion in the LIV Golf League

Jon Rahm went to college at Arizona State University, but it was Phil Mickelson’s brother, Tim, who was the man who recruited him. He was the Sun Devils men’s golf coach at the time and Mickelson made Rahm and another Spanish-speaking teammate do 10 burpees for every Spanish word they used, in an attempt to make them learn English faster.

One of Four Spanish Major Champions
Rahm’s win at the 2021 US Open saw him become just the fourth male Spaniard to win a major championship. Only Severiano Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal and Sergio Garcia had done so before him. All four have won at Augusta National.
Champion In Debut LIV Season
The Spaniard was the big-money signing ahead of the 2024 LIV Golf League campaign. He had to wait until July to grab his first win in the league, which came at LIV Golf UK.
