Six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo will be returning home for an exciting new venture after hanging up the headset

Faldo lands huge DP World Tour gig

He’s been retired from the commentary booth for less than a year, and now Sir Nick Faldo has landed a huge gig with the DP World Tour – and it’s sure to please a lot of domestic fans.

Starting this year, the six-time major champion will serve as the host of the Betfred British Masters until at least 2027.

The event will once again be returning to The Belfry this year after the Brabazon secured hosting duties for the next five years.

Faldo himself has a long and successful history when it comes to The Belfry. The Englishman played in three of the four Ryder Cups to be held there – in 1985, 1989 and 1993 – and returned five and a half points from 12 matches.

In the latter, fans may also remember Faldo making a sensational hole-in-one on the par-3 14th, so he no doubt has fond memories of the Sutton Coldfield track.

When it comes to the British Masters itself – a tournament which returned to the DP World Tour schedule in 2015 – Faldo was runner-up to Sandy Lyle in 1988, before triumphing a year in 1989 when the event was staged at Woburn.

“It’s a real honour to be given the opportunity to host the Betfred British Masters, particularly at a venue as iconic as The Belfry,” Faldo said. “It’s a place that is synonymous with British and European golf, and we’ve been treated to some incredible moments there over the years.”

Since returning to the DP World Tour schedule after seven years away due to lack of sponsorship, the Betfred British Masters has been held at six venues – all in England – by six different hosts, with Faldo becoming the seventh when he takes over from Danny Willett in 2023.

Here is the full list of British Masters hosts…

2015: Ian Poulter at Woburn

2017: Lee Westwood at Close House
2018: Justin Rose at Walton Heath

The DP World Tour is yet to make an announcement on where the tournament will be staged beyond 2026, although fans will no doubt be hoping it continues to be moved around the country as it has done in the past.
