Made in Denmark Report
Matt Wallace was the man to come through an all-English four-man playoff at the Made in Denmark to secure his third title of the 2018 European Tour season.
Wallace started the final day at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club two shots behind overnight leader Lee Westwood, and struggled throughout the middle part of his round.
He remained at -14 with six to play, but made five late birdies, including three 3s to finish his round. That pushed him up to 19-under, what would eventually be the playoff score.
Westwood also finished at 19, with Steven Brown and Jon Thomson making it an English quartet who would do battle in extra holes in Aarhus.
The former World No 1 would drop out of the playoff after failing to match birdie on the first extra hole. Thomson would also drop, with Wallace and Brown headed down a 74th hole.
Eventually, it would be Wallace that would take victory, with yet another birdie – making it seven in his last eight holes of the tournament. The victory is his third of the European Tour season and his fourth on the tour.
South African Erik van Rooyen put it one of the low rounds of the day – a final day 65, to climb into the top five. Meanwhile, Belgium’s Thomas Detry could only manage a 1-under 71 on the final day. He started Sunday’s play just one back from Westwood, but finished three outside the playoff.
