The Metal Injection Molding construction gives it standout softness, and the variety of grinds ensures there’s something here for every type of player. With solid performance in sand and around the green, and a look that rivals premium offerings, this is a wedge that deserves a spot on your shortlist, particularly if you’re after value without compromise.

Cobra King Forged Wedge Review: First Impressions

Straight away, I noticed that the Cobra King Forged Wedge makes a strong visual statement. The clean, compact head shape gives it a premium look, and players have a choice of three elegant finishes, chrome, black, and raw, all equally attractive depending on your taste. During my testing I used the chrome version, and it set up beautifully behind the ball.

NCG Verdict

From a tech point of view, I think the real standout innovation here is Cobra’s use of 8620 carbon steel combined with Metal Injection Moulding, MIM. This process creates a tighter grain structure than traditional casting, resulting in a softer feel and better durability.

In fact, Cobra claims this method allows for up to 50% tighter tolerances compared to standard casting. That means more consistent spin and flight from wedge to wedge, especially important as grooves begin to wear.

Also notable is the Speed Notch on the sole, which has been enlarged for this iteration. The design helps the clubhead glide through turf and sand more efficiently, maintaining swing speed and enhancing spin potential. Paired with Cobra’s Flighted Groove Technology, which varies centre of gravity placement depending on loft, the wedge delivers tour-level control.

During testing, the King Forged Wedge impressed me from all areas. Out of the bunker, it excelled. I found it sliced through the sand with ease and didn’t dig into the bunker, which is a common mishap with wedges. Around the greens, it felt beautifully soft yet solid, which gave me more confidence over more delicate chip shots.

While it might not be the absolute highest-spinning wedge I have tested, it offered more than enough bite on chip and pitch shots to inspire confidence. Control and feel were also consistent across the board.

Final Verdict

Overall, Cobra has taken a bold step forward with the new King Forged Wedge. The combination of a soft MIM-forged feel, refined sole grinds, and a clean tour-style profile makes this one of the most complete wedge offerings Cobra has ever produced.

I really think this wedge deserves serious consideration for golfers of all levels looking for a blend of tech, feel, and performance.
