NCG SUMMARY

The Payntr Match Day SC Spikeless Golf Shoes are a perfect blend of comfort, technology, and style. Designed with input from major champion Jason Day, they offer immediate comfort out of the box, tour-level stability, and a unique carbon propulsion plate for added stability when swinging the golf club.

Whether you’re walking 18 in the rain or contending with dry, firm turf, these spikeless shoes deliver excellent traction no matter the conditions. Add in a sleek, minimalist look and easy maintenance, and I certainly think this is one of the best all-around shoes on the market.

PROS

  • Immediate comfort
  • Outstanding grip for a spikeless shoe
  • Waterproof and versatile in all conditions

CONS

  • None

First Impressions

Out of the box, these are some of the cleanest golf shoes I’ve seen. The one-piece upper gives them a sleek, modern silhouette with no visible stitching, while the TPU outsole provides structure without sacrificing looks. Even before putting them on, you know they mean business.

They’re not just built for performance, they look great too. The minimalist upper is easy to clean, and even after multiple rounds, they’ve held their shape and style. A simple wipe with a towel brings them back to box-fresh condition.

On Course Testing

Comfort straight from the start is where I think these golf shoes really come into their own. They required no breaking-in period, I experienced comfort right from the off which in my experience is a rarity in performance footwear. I took them straight to Portugal for three consecutive rounds, I found they offered unwavering comfort, no rubbing, no blisters, just solid performance.

The spikeless design might raise eyebrows for golfers who play in all conditions, but these held their own. Whether in wet or dry conditions, or from awkward slopes, the grip remained reassuringly strong. For a spikeless shoe, that’s a standout feature.

One of the standout innovations is the Carbitex GearFlex propulsion plate embedded in the sole—a carbon strip that adds rigidity and energy return. It’s a clever addition, borrowed from the world of running shoes, designed to help players generate more speed from the ground up. And it works. The added responsiveness gives a genuine performance edge during the swing.

Coupled with a Riopene tongue and bootie construction, the lockdown fit is exceptional. The interior hugs your foot like a sock, offering both support and ground feel—two things you don’t always get together in golf shoes.

The 19th hole

Supportive, stylish, and seriously well-engineered, I think the Payntr Match Day SC Spikeless Golf Shoes are a top-tier choice for all golfers. They effortlessly combine performance with comfort. Despite being spikeless there is also no shortage of traction and stability. If you’re sceptical about going spikeless, these may just change your mind.

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.

What’s In Jack’s Bag:

Titleist TSR2 Driver

Titleist TSR2 Fairway wood

TaylorMade P7MB 3-P

Titleist SM10 wedges

TaylorMade TP Reserve Blade putter
