FIRST HIT: MD Golf Superstrong ST2 driver
Are you a better player looking for a great-looking driver with a bit more forgiveness than an out-and-out players’ club?
Or a mid-handciapper looking to make the transition to a driver with more control?
If you said yes to either of those questions, this driver will be right up your street.
The Superstrong ST2 is the latest MD Golf driver – and it ticks all the boxes.
Not only is it superb to look at, it’s also very forgiving and long – which sounds like the perfect combination.
The highlight for me is the head shape.
It has a very deep face, which means it doesn’t spin much – ideal for more distance – and looks really smart and compact at address. The classy, glossy black crown is very striking and goes well with the yellow shaft and grip. It also helps make the club appear smaller, which makes the high levels of forgiveness on offer even more surprising.
The feel out of the middle of the club is solid and fast. Yet it doesn’t feel like a gun going off, there’s plenty of finesse and you can always tell where it’s going.
As with all of MD’s line, the components are superb.
The UST ProForce shaft matches the head perfectly, and the grip – also UST – is nice and soft yet also tacky enough for you to feel comfortable.
The colour scheme won’t be for everyone, but the performance certainly will be. As will the price, which, at just over £100, represents a massive bargain.
