Driver test results: Yonex Ezone XP video review
First impressions: Every time I pick up a piece of kit from Yonex, it immediately feels like a top quality premium product.
The Yonex Ezone XP driver was no exception. It was nice to see a prominent ‘1’ on the head cover but when you take it out, it’s certainly got a futuristic look and feel about it.
Not everyone will be a fan of the red and black crown but for me it helped it stand out and I didn’t find it off putting at all. With a high quality graphite shaft, it definitely feels like you are getting the complete package.
What they say: The Ezone XP features the YONEX Dual Tungsten Power [DTP] System which helps create maximum power and distance.
Tungsten in both the grip and club head works in conjunction with the lightweight shaft to help add more yards to your drives.
With four-way adjustability in the hosel and a range of lofts available there’s a setting to suit all abilities and shot shapes.
NCG verdict: Another stunner in the looks department – an it’s not just a pretty face.
Everything about this driver looks and feels premium and when you strike it out of the middle it is one of the sweetest sounding drivers out there.
I was impressed with the ball speed and carry numbers although it took me a while to fine tune the loft. I was testing a 9 degree head and when I moved up from the standard setting it went a bit too high. These are the dangers when you start tweaking too much yourself – away from the guidance of a custom fitter.
On the whole it was a very impressive performer and only narrowly missed out on a medal.
