First Impressions
Wilson might not be the first choice of brand that springs to mind when considering your next golf bag but the Exo Lite Staff stand bag looks great! I’d never owned a Wilson bag before and straight off the bat I was very impressed with it. The EXO Lite is on the smaller end of the stand bag scale but this very much suits many golfers who don’t want to deal with bulky, heavy bags.
The design of this bag is very simple but looks very smart. There are red panels down the right and the left side of the bag with white down the centre. There is also a mixture of Wilson’s logos distributed on the bag. This only seems to be the case with the red/white bag that I tested as Wilson offers this bag in many other colours yet there is only the crest logo on those bags.
The last lightweight carry bag that I tested was the Cobra Sunday bag and unlike that, the Wilson Staff bag offers a couple more pockets which is a great addition. With this comes a little more weight as the Staff bag weighs 2.4kg. However, it does offer six storage pockets. A large side pocket on one side with a slightly smaller one on the other side. There are also two outer pouches that work great for holding water bottles. As these are pockets on top of pockets having bottles in there it did limit the space in inner pockets. One of these pouches has a magnetic closure so could hold things of greater value. Speaking of that, this is a small zipped pocket on the outer of the largest pocket which is a great valuables pocket. This pocket has a water tight zip making it an ideal waterproof valuables pocket for items you don’t want to get wet.
NCG Verdict
I’ve had the chance to take this bag out a couple of times now both carrying and on a trolley. My carry experience was very pleasant and comfortable. The Wilson Staff bag features a 2-in-1 self-balancing four-point double strap system. This allows the bag stands to move with you rather than being stuck in one place. The straps themselves hold quite a bit of padding making them very comfortable. The padding on the actual bag has been tactically created to allow for air flow to filter through the hip/lower back pad.
The Staff EXO Lite bag features new sturdy, integrated stand legs. They worked really well and when put on a trolley they could be strapped up to keep them in place. It sat on there quite well despite having to take the hills at my golf club. The bottom of the legs have thick rubber grips meaning that the bag stands very well on all surfaces.
The top of the bag features a four-way top divider. As someone who has fourteen clubs in their bag, I found there to be sufficient room and you could still have enough separation between clubs. Ideally, as a lighter-weight bag, you would typically have fewer clubs in but like I said it will still hold fourteen.
Typically when you want a little rain it doesn’t, meaning that I can’t say whether this bag works well in the wet or not. However, as this is a lightweight fabric bag I can’t see it being overly waterproof. It does come with a rain hood that felt much more water resistant than the actual bag.
Overall, I think that this is a great little carry bag. It looks smart, is very comfortable to use and does a great job across all categories. There is plenty of storage space without being overly big, and the price tag is reasonable too.
