Stuburt Evolution-Tech Padded Jacket review: First Impressions
The Evolution-Tech Padded Jacket has Stuburt’s trademark uncomplicated styling, it also is very unique as it is essentially a mid-layer/windproof jacket hybrid combination. It’s got thermal properties, making it the perfect cool weather jacket. The piece is even branded as being water repellent, so I was looking forward to putting it through its paces on a drizzly autumnal day.
The design of it is quite interesting. From the chest-upwards it’s made from a heavy duty polyester-packed heat-sealed fabric, which is where its great thermal properties come from. That same material is found on the padded jacket’s featured raglan sleeves too. My arms, head and hands tend to get cold the quickest, so will this piece of apparel be my go-to winter jacket? Let’s find out.
Stuburt Evolution-Tech Padded Jacket review: On The Course
I am 5ft 10, and wear a UK size small top, I found the small size fitted very nicely. The thing I instantly liked about this was how thick and warm the thermal fabric was, making it ideal for chilly days out on the course. It’s actually a heat-sealed design, which is even better than standard thermal protection as it traps your body temperature to warm you up even more. Say hello to modern technology…
It also kept the wind at bay, and when you’re playing golf that can become an invaluable asset, especially on links courses.
I found this hooded jacket really easy to swing in and the stretch of the fabric meant my swing wasn’t restricted at all. It’s got two handy pockets for storing your essentials. I’m of the belief all golf jackets should have pockets in exactly for that reason. Don’t you agree?
Stuburt’s DRI-back membrane technology is incorporated into the jacket. This helps to regulate body temperature, so sweating wasn’t an issue as it kept me dry and feeling fresh throughout my round.
The hood is the icing on the cake. Not only is it fully waterproof, but it adds to the jacket’s windproof properties. I even found myself wearing the hood when it wasn’t raining!
During the autumn/winter months I’d recommend wearing this jacket on top of a base layer and long sleeve polo shirt. That gives you plenty of layers to keep warm, so with three pieces of clothing on you can’t really go wrong here.

This piece of apparel is one of the most versatile I’ve come across so far. It’s got windproof, waterproof and thermal properties. Weather protection and versatility: what more could you want?
That’s not to say you can wear it with nothing else underneath. As I said previously, you’ll want to double this jacket up at the very least, so wear it on top of a base layer, or even better, stick a long sleeve polo shirt on underneath.
There’s black, French navy and slate grey to choose from, so even if you’re not too keen on the lightness of the colour I tested, there’s something here for you.
