First Impressions
I’m warning you now: this gilet is ultra-lightweight. In fact, it’s the most lightweight golf gilet I’ve stumbled across to date.
When I picked it up, I was a bit concerned at first. Would this lightweight feel result in an inability to keep the cold winter winds at bay? I had all my fingers and toes crossed during un-packaging.

Too often do golf manufacturers go shy on showing off their branding, but Stuburt have covered themselves in glory on this front. They’ve not only got their logo on full show, but it’s a reflective left chest laser cut print logo. Beat that for branding.
The gilet is split into two sections: the yoke panels and the body lining. The yoke is the part of the top around the neck, which is made from 92% Nylon and 8% Elastane. Whereas the body lining is 100% Polyester. Both Nylon and Polyester are waterproof and offer decent thermal insulation, so this mix of materials is perfect for a cold weather gilet.
On Course Testing
I tested this in perfect conditions; a chilly autumn day with a cool breeze. I layered it up over a base layer and polo shirt, which I’d recommend to anyone wanting to try a golf gilet at this time of the year.
I can confirm the product description was true; this gilet made short work of the wind despite its lightweight and thin build.

It did actually rain during testing, which I was pleased about, believe it or not. The rain didn’t hamper the performance of the gilet though, thanks to its water resistant coating.
Warmth, at this time of the year, that’s incredibly important. This isn’t quite as thick as some offerings on the market but that does leave more room for layering underneath which is a key component of keeping warm out on the fairways.
The 19th hole
Gilets are a trend that some people pull off spectacularly. If you’re one of those people, you’ll benefit from wearing this with other layers off the course and looking the part.
Whether it’s the school run, the supermarket rush or watching England play down at your local, this Stuburt gilet will reward owners taking it out and about. There are three colours to choose from, so you won’t be stuck for choice either.
