It was a sensational victory for Thomas Bjorn’s men. So let’s take a look at the clubs each player used to contribute to the 17.5-10.5 score.
Firstly let’s break down which brands which were represented by Team Europe at Le Golf National.
TaylorMade: 3
Callaway: 3
Ping: 1
Titleist: 1
Free agents: 4
It was very interesting to see four free agents in the European team compared to the two on the USA team.
Paul Casey, Tommy Fleetwood, Francesco Molinari and Thorbjorn Olesen are all former Nike hardware users.
Let’s also take a look at the driver models which were on display.
TaylorMade M4: 3
TaylorMade M3: 3
Callaway Rogue: 3
Ping G400: 1
Titleist TS3: 1
TaylorMade M1: 1
No surprise to see TaylorMade and Callaway leading the way here.
But what about the golf balls favoured by the Europeans?
Titleist Pro V1/x: 7 (Casey, Fleetwood, Hatton, Molinari, Poulter, Olesen, Stenson)
TaylorMade TP5/x: 3 (Rose, Rahm, McIlroy)
Callaway Chrome Soft X: 2 (Garcia, Noren)
In the end, we saw a bit of a mix when it came to foursomes with some pairings being made up of players who use the same ball and others that weren’t
Fleetwood and Molinari had success with the same ball but McIlroy won twice with Poulter and Garcia who each use a different ball to him.
Rose and Stenson made it two wins from two despite not playing the same ball.
