Laser rangefinder or GPS – which do we prefer and which is going to help us the most?

The golf season is up and running, we’re happy with the clubs in our bags, we’ve got new shoes and clothes.

But could a little bit of technology be the key to helping us shoot betters scores?

I’ve been testing out laser rangefinders and GPS devices on an ongoing basis over the past five years and I’ve played many rounds with one, the other, or both.

For anyone who doesn’t know, a laser is capable of zapping any individual target and will then display the number of yards, or metres, to that target.

Laser rangefinder vs. GPS

A GPS device will use your GPS location and a pre-loaded course map to give you number to the front, middle and back of the green.

It will also include yardages to hazards and often have a flyover map view to let you know where you are heading.

So which one works best? It’s going to be very dependant on the individual but here’s list of pros and cons for each which will hopefully help you make the right call.
