This is a tough one for me. I have always been a laser guy as I like to just grab my bag and get out there (see my piece on electric trolleys).
After getting used to using a laser, I can then feel a bit naked without one.
But has using a laser ever improved my score? Probably not.
Have I ever wasted time zapping a pin when a number to the middle of the green would have sufficed? Absolutely.
I’m rarely accurate to a yard when hitting a 5-iron. Anywhere on the green and I’m happy.
This has come to fruition when I’ve been put on the course with a laser and GPS. When I’ve got a yardage to glance at, it’s rare for me to then actually use the laser at all.
But I don’t like wearing a watch. Not just when playing golf. I just don’t like wearing a watch, full stop.
I had a really nice Casio when I was 12. I even upgraded to a velco strap. But they just seem to annoy me these days.
So if I could only use one piece of technology out on the course it would have to be some sort of GPS device that I can attach to my bag or trolley.
A trolley with GPS such as the Motocaddy S5 Connect and Powakaddy FW7s GPS would be high up on my priority list.
But they are cheating a bit so I’m going with a watch or a small handheld device which I’m going to clip on to my bag.
