Designed for players who want the look of a blade, but require the extra stability of a mallet. It features a unique blend that has helped to elevate Toulon’s putters to the next level once again

Introduction

Struggle with the forgiveness of a blade but hate the bulk of a mallet?

The Toulon Alcatraz Mini H1 is a compact mallet putter designed to delivered the increased forgiveness of a mallet without compensating the compact look and feel of a blade. Sounds like the ideal combination.

It’s part of the brand’s 2026 lineup, which Toulon say has a renewed emphasis on performance.

They’re a brand of putters that have often been praised for their looks just as much as their performance. But this latest range aims to prove they’re far more than a bit of eye candy.

NCG Summary and Rating

NCG SUMMARY

Toulon has done a remarkable job in creating a mini mallet that successfully bridges the gap between blade and mallet designs. Its whole design works well in delivering plenty of forgiveness without feeling overly bulky at address. The deep diamond milled face provides a soft yet responsive feel, while the alignment line and stable head make it particularly effective on short putts.

It won’t come cheap, and that’s a light way of putting it, but the Alcatraz Mini H1 is worth the price tag.

PROS

Key benefits and downsides

Key benefitsDownsides
Looks – Shallower front to back compared to the previous AlcatrazPrice – This is firmly a premium option and has a high price point
Feel – Soft, responsive feel from deep millingFeedback – Slightly reduced feedback due to high forgiveness
Consistency – Improved ball speed consistency with front loaded weights
Forgiving – Ideal for golfers with a medium arc to their stroke path

First Impressions

It’s clear, the 2026 Toulon collection has levelled up in terms of its looks, and the Alcatraz Mini H1 is no exception. Finished in a rich midnight blue, I think it has a bespoke look to it.

The frosted treatment on the mallet head reduces glare effectively, while the white alignment line contrasts sharply against the darker head, making it easy to aim.

But, then again, it does look expensive because it is.

What I found

The Alcatraz Mini H1 is essentially a compact version of a popular high-MOI mallet shape. It has a noticeably smaller profile than the standard Alcatraz, making it more appealing to those of you who aren’t full on-board with oversized putter heads.

It features an H1 hosel, which introduces moderate toe hang. That means it suits golfers with a slight arc in their stroke, offering a nice middle ground between face-balanced mallets and toe-heavy blades.

It is clear that this is a forgiving putter. Off-centre hits retain that impressive speed and roll consistency you would expect from a mallet. Equally, shorter putts, in particular, feel very stable and easy to start on your intended line.

Despite its forgiveness, the Alcatraz Mini H1 still delivers a soft feel. Toulon credit this to their deep diamond milling.

I also found the sound at impact to be pleasing. It was muted but solid sort of sound that gives just enough feedback to let you know how well you’ve struck it.

That said, if you’re someone who prefers maximum feedback from the face, the added forgiveness might slightly dampen that sensation. This is very much a performance-first putter.

NCG Final Say

Overall, I have to say the Toulon Alcatraz Mini H1 strikes an impressive balance between feel and forgiveness. It delivers the stability of a mallet in what is a sleeker profile, making it a compelling option for a those who aren’t as hot on mallets as others.

If you’ve ever felt stuck between a blade and a mallet, this could be the putter you’ve been looking for.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
