FANTASTIC ALIGNMENT

Ram FX-05 CNC Milled Mallet Putter

5 star review

More information: Ram Website UK / Ram Website US

The Ram FX-05 CNC Milled Mallet Putter punches well above its weight in the budget putter category. With its CNC-milled face and spider-like design, it delivers solid performance for short and mid-range putts, although long putts require a bit more adjustment. At £80, it’s a perfect choice for newcomers or those looking for a high-performing putter without the premium price tag. Ram has proven that you don’t need to spend big to sink big.

A putter priced under £100 looking this good?!

Looks wise this mallet putter from Ram is seriously impressive. The putter has an overall blacked out design which looks great. The head cover also had a premium look to it.

Ram FX-01 CNC Milled Blade Putter Review

I found this putter easy to line up. It has a single white alignment line and is easy on the eye behind the ball. The strike and feel off the face was interesting. It has quite a hard feel and sound to the strike, even using premium urethane balls. Nevertheless it still comes off the face quite softly which I presume is due to the CNC milling. This allowed me to make a confident stroke without feeling as if the ball was going to explode off the face. Overall I quite liked the positive feel and sound of the strike.

There is really no reason not to recommend this putter. What was most impressive is that I was only using it for a few minutes before I completely forgot the price and was comparing this with putters 2 or 3 three times the price. If I was to nit-pick there were some very minor imperfections in the finish, but none of these affected the performance and were only apparent when looking closely. The face was perfect and this is what matters.

Ram FX-03 CNC Milled Mallet Putter

The matte black finish isn’t just a looker. It serves a practical purpose as well. I found glare to be virtually non-existent, allowing for clearer vision during putts, particularly in bright conditions.

I think one of the standout features of the FX-03 is its white alignment aid. Contrasted against the black head, the alignment line is easy to pick out, providing a strong visual cue that makes setting up putts straightforward.

Short putts are a particular strength of this mallet, with the alignment aid proving invaluable in maintaining accuracy.

The Ram FX-03 CNC Milled Mallet Putter is a testament to Ram’s ability to deliver quality at an accessible price. While it may not challenge the absolute top-tier putters in terms of luxury or refinement, its performance and feel are impressive for its category. With thoughtful design choices, like the CNC milled face and matte black finish, Ram has created a putter that is both functional and stylish.

Pros:

  • Excellent feel and precision
  • Bold matte black finish is great and eliminates any glare
  • White alignment line offers great visual aid
  • Affordable price

Cons:

  • Headcover quality is basic

Ram FX-05 CNC Milled Mallet Putter

5 star review

On the greens, I found the FX-05 showcases its strengths in the shorter putts. During my testing, it excelled at sinking short putts, with the alignment line aiding greatly in setup and stroke confidence.

I think the Ram FX-05 CNC Milled Mallet Putter is an impressive addition to the budget putter category. Its sleek design, quality milling, and dependable performance make it a standout for those seeking value without compromise. While it may take a little getting used to, particularly with its closed resting position and lighter head, the payoff is well worth it. For beginners and budget-conscious golfers, this is a mallet putter that more than punches above its weight.

Pros:

  • Perfect for beginners
  • Great consistency on the greens
  • Exceptional value for money

Cons:

  • Slightly closed face at address may require adjustment

Ram FX-02 CNC Milled Mallet Putter

National Club Golfer and National Club Golfer magazine

I’m a huge fan of mallet putters and this one didn’t disappoint, the style and shape of the FX-02 certainly suited my eye. I really liked that the black head had bold white alignment lines, even if it they weren’t continued onto the top of the putter.

I really enjoyed how easy this putter was to line up thanks to the three alignment lines. The black matte black design is tactical from Ram as not only does it create a high contrast between the face and the ball but it also helps to reduce glare when over a putt.

I really enjoyed using this putter and couldn’t recommend it more for anyone who wants a great looking putter on a budget.

Pros:

  • Looks stunning
  • Easy alignment
  • Thick grip
  • Incredibly affordable

Cons:

  • None

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
