Introduction
Truly lightweight golf bags are a struggle to find.
As golfers, our wants and needs from our equipment has grown endlessly over the years. We have been spoilt in the luxury we are afforded. It’s the same with golf bags.
We want them to have compartments for our snacks and drinks, pockets big enough to store jackets, as well as all the necessary room for tees, ball and the rest of it.
To accommodate these needs, there naturally comes an increase in size. To my eye, the average golf bag has become bigger and bigger. With that increase in size comes an increase in weight and more, therefore, more strain on my back.
So to carry something that felt light and comfortable was a welcomed surprise, But that’s not all it has going for it, here’s my full review of the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder Waterproof stand bag…

NCG Summary

NCG Summary
I had the choice of a couple Sunday Golf bags, but I chose to go with the Storm Ryder for one very good reason; it offers better protection against the elements. Playing the majority of my golf on the British Isles means I am no stranger to adverse weather, so having a bag that helps to combat that is a bit of a necessity.
Additionally, I am always on the look out for things that are going to help with my game. That tends to be forgiving golf clubs, but it turns out lightweight golf bags are also a big help.
PROS
- Shock, it’s lightweight!
- Plenty of storage
- Holds 14 golf clubs with ease
- Buggy-friendly
CONS
- Lack of colour options

Key benefits and downsides
| Key benefits | Downsides |
|---|---|
| Lightweight – You won’t need Eddie Hall strength to get this around the course | Design – The looks are reserved to say the least and could do with a few more colour options |
| Comfortable – The dual-strapping makes this a doddle to carry | |
| Weather Ready – Water-resistant zippers, a rain hood are just some of the features that offers enhanced protection against the elements |
First Impressions
There is nothing flashy about the way this Sunday Golf bag looks – is much plainer than the El Camino and less colour choices than the Loma XL.
That’s not to say they are boring. They are what I would call a bit reserved but professional. It has a premium feel to it.

In terms of practicality, I thought its lightweight nature may shrink its size and therefore the amount of clubs it could hold. That isn’t the case. The website says you’ll be able to fit up-to 14 clubs, but I tested it using 12 and thought that was a more comfortable amount.
How I undertook the review
It’s not often I get to spend the full weekend playing golf, for one reason or another. So when I had both Saturday and Sunday tee times booked in recently I knew that would be a great chance to give the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder Waterproof stand bag a go.

Thankfully for me, but not so much for this review, there wasn’t a drop of rain in the air so I was unable to get any conformation of how good the waterproofing is. But seeing how the rest of its features faired, I don’t have many concerns.

What I found
The Sunday Golf website says this is a golf bag that is perfect for the driving range, a quick nine holes and for trolley/buggy use. Although, I didn’t test its suitable regarding the latter, I found it does indeed work well, but I would also like to add in that it is completely suitable to club competition and a full 18-holes use.
Yes, it is a little more compact than some other options out there but there is still plenty of room for a necessary amount of clubs and all your other bits of gear.
A massive side pocket will easily store any jackets, waterproofs or jumpers you’re not wearing, whilst a four can frosty pocket will keep all your refreshments cool, even those that aren’t of an alcoholic nature.

There is also an external glove holder pocket. I suppose, the efficiency of this is weather dependent.
Carrying this bag around the course was pretty comfortable. The double straps are padded which makes a big difference. It rests on your back but it was nice enough.Â
NCG Final Say
Overall, the best compliment I can give the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder Waterproof stand bag is that it’s now my number one option for the season ahead.
If you’re like me and your preference is to carry your clubs and hold off a trolley or buggy for as long as possible, then I can’t think of any noticeable reasons from swaying you from going for this.
It’s lightweight to carry, comfortable all-round long and is waterproof. It simply ticks all the boxes.
How it compares to other carry golf bags
This is considerably lighter than most other carry bags I have tested. It’s bigger and, therefore, more roomy than nearly all pencil offerings but it feels just as light. The best of both worlds really.
