A proper carry bag with a stable stand mechanism. It’s lightness and practicality make it a no-brainer for an everyday bag.

The Motocaddy Solo bag ticks most boxes for this category of bag. For me, the fact that a bag this light can accommodate a full set of clubs without them getting stuck and tangled makes it an absolute winner.

Sunday Golf Loma XL Carry Bag

Sunday Golf LOMA XL bag | Source: NCG
Sunday Golf LOMA XL bag | Source: NCG

The Loma XL from Sunday Golf is a great little golf bag. It has a 3 way top that can hold up to 8 clubs – 9 at a push! It’s slim and lightweight weighing in at just 1.5kg.

Unlike some smaller bags the club dividers are full length and there is a padded double strap to make carrying easier. Full length legs keep the bag stable on the ground and a firm carry handle at the top is great to help pick it up and go.

The El Camino golf bag from Sunday Golf is their 3rd smallest golf bag and its four way top divider is designed to hold up to 10 clubs. It has a solid base with full length stand legs.

The double strap on the back is self balancing for comfort but this bag is also designed to be use on a trolley or buggy. Weighing in at 1.7kg it’s lightweight and easy to carry.

It comes with a large drinks pocket, a rain hood, velour-lined valuables pocket which have water-resistant zippers. A large apparel pocket and a front ball pocket also add to the space for your belongings.

PROS

  • Lightweight design
  • Comfortable to carry
  • Good storage for the size

Sunday Golf Storm Ryder waterproof Golf Bag

Sunday Golf Storm Ryder Waterproof stand bag | Source: NCG
Sunday Golf Storm Ryder Waterproof stand bag | Source: NCG

I had the choice of a couple Sunday Golf bags, but I chose to go with the Storm Ryder for one very good reason; it offers better protection against the elements. Playing the majority of my golf on the British Isles means I am no stranger to adverse weather, so having a bag that helps to combat that is a bit of a necessity.

Additionally, I am always on the look out for things that are going to help with my game. That tends to be forgiving golf clubs, but it turns out lightweight golf bags are also a big help.

PROS

  • Shock, it’s lightweight!
  • Plenty of storage
  • Holds 14 golf clubs with ease
  • Buggy-friendly

CONS

  • Lack of colour options

Callaway Chase Dry ’25 Stand Bag

5 star review

Reviewed by Nicola Slater

The new Chase Dry from Callaway is a fully waterproof carry bag, with waterproof zips and 3k waterproof fabric.

Most waterproof bags I’ve previously tried have been pretty heavy to carry whereas the chase dry is just less than 2kg, so just felt like a normal carry bag weight.

The straps had plenty of padding, which was great. There is also a four way top and seven storage pockets!

TaylorMade FlexTech Waterproof Stand Bag

5 star review

Reviewed by Jonathan Taylor

The TaylorMade FlexTech Waterprrof bag is a pretty substantial stand bag which is suitable for year-round use as it is roomy and will sit happily on a trolley or buggy.

The good-looking fabric is durable and waterproof. There is lots of storage with no less than five roomy and waterproof pockets.

To summarise, this is an excellent all-weather and all round bag. It’s well constructed and looks good. The pockets all do a decent job. As a carry bag it is slightly bulkier than I’d ideally like, but that size means it performs well on a trolley or indeed a cart.

PROS

  • Comfortable and balanced carry.
  • Waterproof.
  • Plenty of storage space.
  • Works on trolley/buggy.
  • Good colour choices.

CONS

  • Just a little bulky

TaylorMade FlexTech Super Lite Stand Bag

4 star review

This is a genuinely lightweight and comfortable carry bag that can carry 14 clubs and offers reasonable pocket space. It is an ideal Summer bag.

In short, this bag is a super lightweight and compact carry bag, which is ideal for fine weather golf. If you need something that will withstand miserable winter weather then this isn’t for you, and you might want to check out the TaylorMade FlexTech Waterproof Stand Bag (review above this one).

PROS

  • A genuinely lightweight bag.

The Wilson 1914 is a competent all-rounder. It’s about the perfect size for a carry bag and offers a comfortable and balanced carry. It also looks smart and has a sensible pocket setup.

Ben Hogan Signature synthetic leather stand bag

5 star review

Reviewed by Jonathan Taylor

This is a really handsome, comfortable carry bag which is well-designed, practical and comes in at a tremendous price point.

I think this is a first-class carry bag that has just about everything you need and expect from a premium manufacturer. It’s extremely good looking and performs well on the course. The only downside is that it is a little on the heavy side but when you consider that it comes in at £100 (or more) cheaper than similarly constructed bags from competitors, then I think it’s an absolute winner.

PROS

  • Premium construction.
  • Comfortable and adjustable.
  • Neat magnetic pockets.
  • 5-way club divider

  • On the heavy side

Ping Reserve Golf Stand Bag

Ping Reserve stand bag | Source: NCG
Ping Reserve stand bag | Source: NCG

The Ping Reserve is a curious beast. It’s a decent size and offers a comfortable and balanced carry. It looks tremendous and offers some flexibility in that the apparel and valuables pocket is detachable.

However it is definitely on the heavy side, a bit cramped for a full set of clubs and does have an unusual pocket configuration.

As long as you are aware of these aspects, you may well be seduced by the handsome looks and this also does seem to be a bag that is robustly constructed and will give years of useful service.

PROS

A Ping Hoofer to most golfer’s is an absolute classic. It’s a product that you almost don’t want to see change as it already ticks all of the boxes.

Ping Moonlander Carry Bag

5 star review

If you are looking for a small carry bag with a stand, it is hard not to recommend this bag.

It is very compact but with enough storage to carry some extra clothing and all the paraphernalia necessary should the weather take a turn for the worse.

It has a quality feel to it and the pockets have been well designed. This is not simply a small bag with a couple of pockets thrown on for good measure.

I really like a small carry bag and for me this is the perfect “go-to” summer carry bag – one which I will be using a lot over the summer!

Despite the sleek shape and sizing there is a serious amount of storage packed into this bag including some really neat magnetic pockets.

Overall, I loved testing this bag out. It is so versatile that it is a perfect option for people who move between carrying and using a trolley. It is also one of the only smaller carry bags that I feel has enough storage to use full time. This will definitely be in my bag rotation this year.

MacGregor Principal 7 Inch Stand Bag

5 star review
best carry golf bags

Reviewed by Steve Carroll

Exceptional in all weather, it’s light as a feather, can handle a full set of clubs, and deals admirably with a shower. If you’re looking to keep things compact, you just can’t go wrong.

What’s the lowdown? The MacGregor Principal is excellent in nearly every way. At around £80, you’re getting nearly all the benefits from a much larger, and much more expensive, stand bag but in a far more convenient chassis.

If reducing the size and weight you’re carrying on the course is your primary purpose, this is the perfect solution. There aren’t many trade-offs, and you can still test the limit with a full set-up without compromising the product, or breaking your back at the same time.

This is surely the model that all ultra-lightweight stand bags should follow. This MacGregor golf bag is definitely a winner.

PROS

  • Probably the lightest bag I have ever carried
  • Dual-strap system is extremely comfortable
  • Plenty of space for balls and clothing despite compact size

CONS

  • At this price? Nothing at all

MacGregor Tourney Hybrid golf bag

4.5 star review

So , who is this bag for? I should point out at this stage that I was astounded by the price of Tourney Hybrid, which is, drum roll….just £99.99.

I think that is tremendous value for a bag that offers such flexibility. Yes, it is not constructed from premium materials and it isn’t waterproof but it is a perfectly decent bag with a good pocket configuration so comes highly recommended – particularly at the price. It would make an ideal starter bag for a casual golfer who values the ability to carry as well as use a trolley or cart.

PROS

  • Strong pocket configuration.
  • 14-way full length dividers.
  • Good colour choices.
  • Exceptional value.

CONS

  • Rather utilitarian feel

MotoCaddy EliteFLEX Hybrid golf bag

4.5 star review

I do like the hybrid concept, but it’s a tough one to pull off. The EliteFLEX is as good as anything in this category, so is worthy of serious consideration.

Although this bag is substantially heavier than my normal carry bag, the two adjustable shoulder straps are nicely padded and contoured which allowed me to obtain an extremely comfortable and balanced carry. In fact, in terms of comfort and balance, I have not tested anything better.

PROS

  • Premium look and construction.
  • 14-way full length dividers.
  • Magnetic pockets.
  • Extremely comfortable and balanced carry…

The straps had plenty of padding, which was great to carry.

Titleist Premium Carry Bag

5 star review
best carry golf bags

Reviewed by Steve Carroll

The Titleist Premium Carry Bag really is the gold standard in ‘Sunday’ offerings.

Ludicrously light, and maintaining the extremely comfortable double shoulder strap system, the integrated mini-legs have taken this product to a new level.

Five pockets and the sort of three-way top cuff you’d expect to see on a much larger stand bag mean space for your clubs and essentials is never an issue.

It’s quite amazing how much Titleist have managed to pack into something so compact. If you like to carry, this could well become your go-to bag.

PROS

  • Ridiculously light – at under 3lbs – but doesn’t skimp on features.
  • Mini-manual legs, and so the ability to half stand this bag up, is a game-changer for this product.
  • Three-way cuff means you won’t be trying to jam your clubs into a tight space. You can easily get a full set in here.
  • Five pockets, including a full-length apparel pocket, will allow you to pack all your essentials.

CONS

  • Premium price may be off-putting to some potential customers.

PROS
      • Lightweight design
      • Great capacity for clubs
      • Versatile despite its size
    CONS
      • Not fully waterproof
