Introduction

Golf bag’s come in all different shapes and sizes, something that Sunday Golf really gets. They create golf bags that fit only six clubs in as well as larger more spacious cart bags. I recently tested the Loma XL their second smallest golf bag but today I’ve upgraded in size the slightly bigger Sunday golf bag. Let’s put it to the test and see how this carry bag performs on the course in my full review of the Sunday Golf El Camino carry golf bag.

NCG Summary

The El Camino golf bag from Sunday Golf is their 3rd smallest golf bag and its four way top divider is designed to hold up to 10 clubs. It has a solid base with full length stand legs.

The double strap on the back is self balancing for comfort but this bag is also designed to be use on a trolley or buggy. Weighing in at 1.7kg it’s lightweight and easy to carry.

It comes with a large drinks pocket, a rain hood, velour-lined valuables pocket which have water-resistant zippers. A large apparel pocket and a front ball pocket also add to the space for your belongings.

PROS

  • Lightweight design
  • Comfortable to carry
  • Good storage for the size

Key benefits and downsides

Key benefitsDownsides
Lightweight– Slim design, weighing in at 1.7kgMaximum 10 clubs – this might rule out a lot of golfers who just like to have a full set
Storage – Decent amount of storage given the size. Large frost pocket!
Colour options – nice range of colours
Durable material – The material make up is of a high quality, feels thick.

First Impressions

The design of this golf bag is pretty cool, right?

The checker pattern is limited edition and comes in either the pink/white or black/white. If this doesn’t float your boat then there are nine other plain colour ways to choose from.

This bag has a four way top but it is smaller than the average sized bag. Sunday Golf has listed that you can get up to 10 clubs in here. I think you could maybe squeeze a couple more in if you wanted but 10 fits comfortably without the shafts getting jammed together.

How I undertook the review

I took the El Camino out for a full round at Hickleton Golf Club, my home course. I tend to carry during evening rounds so this was the perfect time to load the bag up and take it out.

I paid close attention to how comfortable the bag was to carry, and even put on a trolley, how well it held up in terms of durability, and whether it offered enough storage for everything I needed. My goal was to provide an honest account of how the bag stands up during actual play.

Additionally, I’ve included a comparison section further down, where I look at how this bag stacks up against similar models in its class.

What I found

I tend to carry 14 clubs with me pretty much all year round and so when I tested the Loma XL choosing 8 was quite the shock. The El Camino is one size up from this and so those 2 extra clubs I could take out felt a lot more comfortable for me. Sunday Golf does list this bag as being a ‘walking bag’ designed for golfers who walk, push, or ride. It’s also a good size for a par 3 course or to take to the driving range.

In terms of internal space I was really impressed. The El Camino has a full length apparel pocket, a front ball pocket with a mesh sleeve and tee holders sat above. There is also a velour-lined valuables pocket with a waterproof zipper. An easy access pouch that’s off the apparel pocket. And, my favourite pocket is the frosty pocket – this thing is massive! It’s fully lined so in my case it’s basically a build in lunch box.

There is also an external glove holder pocket.

Carrying this bag around the course was pretty comfortable. The double straps are adjustable and they also use a self balancing system so it moves to your body. They’re not the thickest padded straps nor is the back panel where it rests on your back but it was nice enough. This bag weighs 1.7kg so it’s really lightweight, exactly what you want from a carry bag. However, its solid flat base meant that I could easily sit it on a trolley and it was very stable.

Sunday Golf doesn’t state that this is a waterproof golf bag but it does come with water-resistant zippers, so you’re covered if you do get caught out in the rain. There is also a rain hood that can be attached too.

NCG Final Say

Overall, this is a great lightweight golf bag option. It doesn’t fit a full set in but it’s great if you don’t carry a full set or you’re just doing a quick 9 holes or heading to the driving range. A darker colourway would also make it a great winter bag option.

How it compares to other bags

It’s a step up from the Sunday Golf Loma XL which has a 3 way top offering space for 8 clubs, whereas the El Camino gives room for 10. It’s a slightly bigger design weighing only 0.2kg more but as expected with a bigger profile.
