George Cooper got his hands on the Puma Cloudspun Progress golf hoodie, and it might just be the softest thing he’s ever worn

Puma Cloudspun Progress hoodie review

I’ve always been an enigma in that I’m all for hoodies on the golf course, but have never owned one of my own – at least not one designed specifically for the sport. Well, fortunately that’s now all changed after I got my hands on the Puma Cloudspun Progress hoodie. And I’m absolutely loving it. Here’s the full review…

Puma Cloudspun Progress hoodie review: First impressions

Opening up my Puma box of goodies, it was the hoodie which I was most looking forward to testing out. Advertised as ‘crazy soft’ and ‘soft on another level’, I quickly learned this was not hyperbole. I mean seriously, I could sleep in this thing.

Mine came in the black heather colour, but thanks to the dotted stripes on the chords it has enough character to not be too dull, nor too flashy.

I ordered size small, which I’d describe as being slim fit upon trying on – even for a 5 ft 8 24-year-old with little muscle. But this was great, as there wasn’t much excess baggage.

Puma Cloudspun Progress hoodie review: On the course

I opted to wear mine underneath the Puma Cloudspun Vest, which proved to be the perfect combination. Again, I can’t reiterate enough how soft this thing is, but the fabric was still light and not too overbearing.

The compact nature of the hoodie and its kangaroo pockets allowed me to swing freely, without any excess material getting in the way and giving me another excuse as to why I played badly. I would say the chords are a little long, but this does allow you tie the hood up nice and snug to both keep you warm, and stop the hooded neckline flapping about when you’re trying to hit bombs.

The moisture wicking cloudspun fabric was a little on the thin side, which was fine by me. But if you’re wearing this purely for warmth, I would advise wearing an extra layer underneath or on top – just as I expertly did in the photos.

Puma Cloudspun Progress hoodie review: The 19th hole

All and all, the hoodie really looked the part out on the course, and I didn’t get a single moan from anyone about opting for a hoodie. Perhaps the times are changing after all.

If you’re debating wearing a hoodie on the course, or want one but don’t know where to start on the market, I’d absolutely recommend the Puma Cloudspun Progress golf hoodie. The best part is – besides the fact it’s maintained its ultra softness after a few washes – is that you can even wear it on the course, in the bar, at home, and everywhere in-between.
