Control and accuracy is something a lot of golfers struggle with off the tee, that’s why the mini driver has grown in popularity so much. Now there is a new version and it looks to improve both of those things

Callaway has introduced its latest mini driver offering with the launch of the Quantum Mini Driver. It is a compact, tech-packed club that looks to be the ultimate fairway finder off the tee.

Mini drivers are a growing trend. They sit somewhere between a traditional driver and a fairway wood, typically featuring a smaller club head and a shorter shaft, as such they continue to grown in popularity.

You may have noticed during the past week, Masters hopeful Justin Rose was using a Quantum Mini – Augusta National is known for its tight fairways and is course where accuracy really is paramount, hence Rose’s use of a mini driver.

The 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist isn’t alone in this. Plenty of tour professionals have now adopted one into their set-ups at one point in time, including the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Cameron Young and Adam Scott.

Positioned as a modern alternative to both driver and 3-wood, the Quantum Mini Driver blends distance with precision. The brand says the club is designed to inspire confidence at address while delivering consistent launch conditions and improved playability across a variety of lies.

The Technology

At the heart of the new model is Callaway’s all-new Tri-Force Face. This combines ultra-thin titanium, poly mesh, and carbon fibre into a single integrated structure.

It is essentially engineered to maintain ball speed across a wider area of the face, particularly on off-centre strikes. Callaway believe, as a result, it offers a blend of speed and forgiveness not previously seen in a driver face design.

The Quantum Mini Driver also marks the introduction of Callaway’s Step Sole Design into the mini driver category. By reducing the amount of sole that interacts with the turf, the club is designed to glide more efficiently through impact, particularly off the fairway.

Callaway has also refined the sole shaping to help the head sit more naturally behind the ball at address.

As with many of modern day golf club releases, artificial intelligence plays a key role. The next-generation Ai-optimised face has been developed to fine-tune speed, spin, launch, and accuracy across the entire hitting area.

By analysing real impact data, Callaway says each section of the face has been precisely engineered to deliver more consistent results.

Adjustability is another major feature. The Quantum Mini Driver includes front-to-back weighting, allowing golfers to shift the centre of gravity depending on their preferred ball flight.

A forward weight promotes a flatter, more penetrating trajectory, while positioning it further back increases launch and forgiveness. This is complemented by the OptiFit 4 hosel, which offers seven settings to dial in loft and lie for further shot-shape control.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
