TaylorMade’s new UK Kingdom fitting centre has opened its doors. We visited the new facility at The Grove to find out whether it lives up to the hype.

TaylorMade’s renowned Kingdom fitting experience has officially arrived in the UK. The manufacturer has opened its new state-of-the-art custom fitting centre at The Grove in Hertfordshire.

For years, TaylorMade’s Kingdom fitting centre in Carlsbad has been regarded as one of the most exclusive destinations in golf. Now, that same experience has arrived in the UK.

But does it live up to the hype?

The Your Golf by NCG team paid a visit to find out. They came away believing golfers are getting far more than a traditional custom fitting.

You’re often surrounded by technology, spend most of the time staring at launch monitor numbers and left hoping your swing doesn’t abandon you during a golf club fitting.

TaylorMade may have found an alternative way of conducting such an experience.

“I actually really didn’t know what to expect coming here, but it is actually quite impressive,” said Your Golf by NCG co-host and professional golfer Nicola Slater.

“I really like how each room is quite intimate, they’re not like massive fitting bays like you would find at some places, and so you’re actually really close with the fitter. I really like that.

“In terms of what product they’ve got here, they’ve got so many different shaft options. I think this Gears software is really cool as well, using the dots on the club, because it really helps you see your actual structure of a swing.”

Fellow Your Golf by NCG YouTube and podcast co-host, Jack Backhouse, who has previously visited TaylorMade’s famous Kingdom facility across the pond, believes the UK venue delivers a similarly premium feel.

“Every time I’ve been to Carlsbad, you walk in, I’m expecting to see Tiger’s bag. I’ve seen it before, I’ve touched his clubs before, but I still go and touch his clubs. It’s like when I walk in here, and you can see Rory’s Masters winning specs. There, you sort of want to go and feel them. Hopefully, that rubs off on you, and you go over to Tiger’s bag and have a feel of them, see how they feel.

“They’re in the middle of building Scheffler’s clubs as well. It’s pretty special to be able to go and touch their genuine purpose-built clubs.”

“It’s really calm. Going for a fitting and spending that much money on a fitting, it’s quite a nervy experience. I think you could feel a bit pressured to want to do really well, but the guys in there (fitting are) are really chill.

“The environment’s pretty calm. The music’s good. You can get a drink and a coffee and some snacks, which I think just calms you down a bit and gets you in the mood to be yourself in there, as opposed to like trying too hard and being someone else.”

Slater was equally impressed by the fitting itself. She noted how the TaylorMade fitters balanced technology with player feedback.

“I think that was like one of the most chill fittings I’ve ever had. I think it’s quite nice when they don’t necessarily talk to you too much about the technology, and they just let you hit the shots, and then look at the data afterwards and give a chance to give your feedback and work with the fitter like that.

“I do think you get quite a lot for the experience, and I would definitely call it more of an experience than a fitting,. You get the whole package.”

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
