The best of the best! We roundup the Best Golf Sweaters 2026
Golf fashion continues to move forward at pace, but the sweater remains a staple of every golfer’s wardrobe. To be honest, you’d be a brave individual to leave the house without one if you’re golfing in the UK.
Like many bits of golf clothing, however, they continue to change and evolve. Whether it’s fun, colourful designs or new modern fits they are one of the most wearable pieces both on and off the course.
Whether your style leans traditional or contemporary, this year’s collections are packed with options.
Here’s a range of options for 2026 that deliver comfort, versatility, and a premium look…
I must confess, I don’t tend to go with classic golf clothes. They haven’t really appealed to me. I have always opted for more casual golfwear and with that hoodies are usually my go-to for an extra layer. But this crewneck from Lyle & Scott may have swayed me on that.
The design looks mega. Lyle & Scott describe it as classical and purposeful, a summary I would agree with. When non-golfers think of golf, this is what I would imagine they would think we all wear. What also really stood out to me is how comfortable it is to wear. The fit is regular, so it isn’t too tight and it isn’t too baggy.
In short, this might be the perfect over layer for a golf polo. I have found that some hoodies, jumpers and other midlayers can be a tight and uncomfortable around the neck, but this has no such issues.

Looks great
Extremely comfortable
Makes you look like a golfer, and feel like a golfer
If a thin knitted jumper is what you’re after for the summer months, then Sounder have you sorted with the Eden Knit with Pointelle Star Crewneck. A very lightweight knitted jumper, the Eden Knit comes in a range of colours, and is a very comfortable piece of clothing.

The ‘Pointelle Star’ is on the back of the jumper, emblazoned into the centre of the back, to provide another nod to the brand, along with the small logo on the left breast.
The sleeves are extra-long, meaning they have to be folded back over for this piece to be worn as a normal jumper, though there are thumbholes should you want to use the excess fabric to keep your hands warm.
There is something about Peter Millar apparel that just sits and looks right – on me, anyway! Sometimes items look baggy or slightly the wrong size, but Peter Millar is made in such a way to make it look like it has been made to measure.
This crew neck pullover, if I am being honest, will probably get more use off the course than on. There is a formal/smart look to it and on returning home with it on my wife did comment how smart I looked, for a change!
I had no problems swinging and never felt restricted and if you wished to remove it mid round it is easily stored away in an apparel pocket.
This is an item for the golfer who wishes to look smart on and off the golf course!
PROS
Great fit
Good amount of stretch
Not a ‘golf’ pullover – can be easily worn off and on course
This is a very lightweight jumper. It’s very thin but has a nice soft feel to touch. I like the design simple with the blue strips on the sleeve to match the rib polo from Gfore. I wore this jumper in a medium, I tend to wear uk8/10 in tops. I liked the body fit but the sleeves were a little baggy on me. I’m 5ft 9 and the length was very nice.
This jumper went in my golf bag for a couple of holes, and it did come out with a few creases in – it’s certainly a garment that requires an iron.
As mentioned, this jumper is very thin, and it did have a nice amount of stretch. It was very easy to swing and move in but on a cold spring day it wasn’t the warmest. I’d say that this is a great jumper for those summer rounds of golf wear you want an extra bit of coverage but nothing too heavy.
The Oscar Jacobson Johnstone Pullover is a clean, versatile mid-layer that delivers a strong balance of comfort and performance. Last year’s piece got a lot of wear from me this year and I have no doubt this will get similar treatment.
It is extremely comfortable, lightweight but is a great layering option for those cooler days. Theres plenty of stretch in the fabric allowing for unrestricted swing movement which is exactly what you need for the golf course.
I wear an XL as a 6ft 1 larger build, and the fit is not overly slim or loose offering a smart, practical look. The simple crew neck design and subtle branding finish the item with a premium look.
Overall, it’s a reliable, easy-to-wear pullover that covers all the essentials on and off the golf course.

The Hearns Pullover is the long-sleeved version of the excellent Duran Vest. It is constructed from 80% polyester and 20% spandex and is designed to be stretchy, lightweight and versatile. I tested the version in Dodger Blue (a striking light blue), one of three colours. There is a contrasting bright green placket with four button closures. This is a novel alternative to the usual zippered closure and I rather like it. There are two open side pockets with a mesh lining. I’m not sure I’d use them for anything, but they are unobtrusive. There is ‘ZERO’ lettering to the right chest and a motif on the back collar. This modest branding means that the Hearns is suitable for a range of non-golfing activities.
On the course, the Hearns did indeed offer Zero Restriction when playing. Although it doesn’t look particularly stowable away in a golf bag, it is a remarkably flexible layering piece. I have worn it as a second or third layer, including in combination with the Duran vest. It is also straightforward to layer a waterproof over the top. Although it is light in weight, it does offer good warmth to weight ratio, and the soft brushed finish offers excellent next to the skin comfort.
So, I have been really impressed by my introduction to the ZR brand, both with the Hearns and also the Duran Vest. I anticipate these getting lots of use in the changeable weather that we experience as golfers in the UK.
The modern golf sweater has become far more than a cold-weather essential.

Whether you favour classic understated looks or something with a little more personality, there’s never been more choice for golfers.
A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.
Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.
Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.
Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.
With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
