Introduction

Launch monitors are no longer just for tour pros and fitting studios, they’ve become one of the best tools for everyday golfers looking to improve. They provide instant feedback on ball flight, speed, spin, and distance, they take the guesswork out of practice and make improvement far more measurable.

The Square Golf Omni Launch Monitor is designed to bring that experience to more golfers, combining detailed shot data with an easy-to-use setup for both indoor and outdoor practice. In this review, we’ll see how it performs, how accurate it really is, and whether it offers good value compared to the growing competition in the launch monitor market.

NCG Summary

The Square Golf Omni is an impressively compact and lightweight launch monitor that is easy to set up and can be used both indoors and outdoors. It quickly connects via Bluetooth, features a clear LED display, and includes an alignment stick to help with calibration.

The Omni delivered highly impressive performance for its £1600 price point. It uses four-camera photometric tracking technology typically found in much more expensive devices.

Ball and club data were consistently accurate, with spin rates almost matching a Trackman and carry distances usually within a few yards. The driving range and course play modes add to the experience, with 1000 free credits included for virtual courses and no mandatory subscription required.

Overall, the Omni stands out as a strong value option for golfers wanting accurate launch monitor data without the high cost of premium systems like Trackman or Foresight.

Key benefits and downsides

Key benefitsDownsides
Portable – it’s lightweight and slim design means that it’s easy to store in your golf bag.No carry case – The Omni is lightweight and very portable but it doesn’t come in a carry case for protection.
Indoor and outdoor use – it can be used both indoors at a studio and then outdoors on a driving range.
No subscription required – You get 1000 free credits with the purchase to use to play virtual courses.

First Impressions

Out of the box, I couldn’t believe now light and compact the Omni was. It came with the tripod base separately that just easily clips into the main device. It felt relatively robust and remained stable on the practice area at Southport and Ainsdale golf club even with a strong wind.

The device itself was very easy to turn on with the button at the top. Then the LED screen is clear, display all the numbers that you need. The Omni also comes with an alignment stick to help calibrate where is straight.

The Omni doesn’t come with the a travel case or something to keep it protected which made me slightly nervous handling it from my car to the range.

How I undertook the review

I had the chance to use the Omni both indoors at an indoor studio hitting into a SimSpace golf simulator as well as outdoors on the driving range and golf course.

What I found

I’ve used a lot of launch monitors over the years and so based on that I was interested to see how the Omni performed. In terms of price the Omni retails at £1600 which is seriously impressive for a four camera photometric tracking launch monitor. This sort of technology tends to be only found in devices that cost over ten times the price.

I first used the Omni at an indoor studio with a SimSpace set up. The Omni can be hooked up to a computer and projector to give on screen information. Setting it down it was connected easily via bluetooth and in this situation would call out ‘ready’ when your ball was in the correct 25cm × 25cm hitting zone. There was also a steady green light to indicate this too when using standalone.

You can use the driving range setting to help with your practice. This comes in both a day golf and night golf mode. You can also play viral courses on the screen. With your purchase you get 1000 free credits included that can be used towards courses. This is subscription free but you can purchase more credits for the courses.

The Omni launch monitor gives you both ball and club data which is really impressive for the price. I found that spin rates were almost identical each shot to the Trackman. Carry distances had a variation of 5 yards to the Trackman with more often than not it being within a couple.

I used the Omni out on the driving range as well as on the golf course. It was nice to just be able to put it down on the range mat and start hitting. You can use the app to get more info and show the ball flight on a virtual range but I just went off what the screen on the Omni showed.

In the box, you also get stickers to help with club data measurements. Each club requires two stickers: one placed just above the hosel and another positioned in the centre at the top of the clubface. The package includes 20 stickers, which is enough to cover most bags with a couple of spares, although there aren’t many extras so they’re worth handling carefully.

Square Golf also explains in the manual that some of the club data is estimated, something many launch monitors don’t make obvious. Directly measured data includes club path, angle of attack, club speed, impact location, and all ball data, with ball data itself not requiring any stickers. Face angle and dynamic loft, however, are estimated rather than directly measured, with both relying on the shaft sticker rather than the face sticker.

NCG Final Say

Overall, the Omni launch monitor is very impressive. The device itself has a slim build and is lightweight and so is easy to move around. It can easily go in a golf bag to be used out on the course, on the practice ground or at indoor studio.

I think that it’s a great investment for any golfer who is looking to improve their game without spending top dollar on Trackman or Foresight product.

How it compares to other launch monitors

In comparison to a Trackman the Omni gives very similar data for a fraction of the price. The spin rates and carry distance was consistenly very good. I like that unlike some launch monitors like the Garmin R10 you didn’t need to set up an app to get the data.
