Titleist Tour Soft golf ball review: NCG Summary

5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

If you’re looking for a premium-feel golf ball without paying tour-level prices, the Titleist Tour Soft is a five-star option. It is engineered for players who prioritise feel and short-game control.

The ball flight off the tee is really stable and is low in spin so it travels a fair distance down the fairway. Despite not having an urethane cover the spin around the greens is still very good.

PROS

  • Exceptional greenside spin and control
  • Low-spin, stable ball flight off the driver
  • Soft feel on putts and short-game shots
  • Strong performance compared to similarly priced balls

CONS

  • Slightly shorter iron carry distances compared to some premium tour balls
  • No urethane cover (though spin performance remains impressive)

First Impressions

This is a golf ball that provides great value for money. Priced between Titleist’s entry-level and premium tour balls, the Tour Soft offers an attractive middle ground. While it costs slightly more than Velocity or TruFeel, it delivers a noticeable performance boost across the board.

Off the putter face, I thought the Tour Soft provides a satisfying feel, offering a balance of softness and responsiveness. It delivers consistent roll without feeling overly firm, making it a pleasure to use on the greens.

NCG Review

Compared to Titleist’s Velocity and TruFeel models, the Tour Soft for me stood out with significant gains in performance. I was able to record a ball speed of 158 mph, 2,400 rpm spin, and a carry distance of 277 yards. This eventually rolled out to a total average yardage of 296.

I found the ball delivered a stable, low-spin trajectory that maximised distance while maintaining accuracy. The performance improvement over the more budget-friendly Titleist models makes the Tour Soft a strong option for golfers seeking value and top level performance.

For mid-irons, the Tour Soft provided excellent control and stopping power. A seven-iron shot of mine registered close to 6,400 rpm of backspin. This is an ideal number for getting consistent height and descent angle for holding them greens. With a carry distance of 160 yards and a total distance of 168 yards, the ball also delivered solid yardage without sacrificing precision when I had an iron in hand.

Around the greens, the Tour Soft impressed me with its spin and soft feel. Testing with a wedge produced 7,000 rpm of spin, with some shots reaching 7,200 rpm, which is comparable to some tour-level balls. Despite its non-urethane cover, the ball responded well on delicate shots, making it a great choice for players who rely on feel and finesse around the greens.

titleist tour soft golf ball review

The Titleist Tour Soft is one of the best non-tour balls on the market, offering superb all-around performance at a reasonable price. With impressive distance off the driver, excellent spin with irons, and remarkable greenside control, it delivers everything an amateur golfer could want.

If you want a ball that performs close to a tour ball without breaking the bank, the Titleist Tour Soft is a must-try.

About the author

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
