The Callaway Tour Authentic is the premium offering in Callaway’s quite extensive range of Gloves. It is made from ultra-soft AAA cabretta leather infused with Griptac 2.0™. Callaway claim it gives the feel of a second skin with optimal grip performance. There are increased perforations for moisture reduction and increased breathability.
My usual size is a medium and this is what I tried. The fit seemed perfect. Quite tight initially, with a little give after light use. The leather is very soft but with enough substance that it feels quite durable. That was certainly my view after hitting a couple of hundred balls on the range. There was very little wear on the glove at all. It maintained a good size without any excessive stretching. I wet it to see how it would fare in rain and the grip was pretty good for a leather glove.

FootJoy Pure Touch Limited Golf Glove
This is the premium glove from a premium brand. It offers excellent feel and grip with reasonable durability.
To summarise, the Pure Touch is as premium a golf glove as I can remember wearing, with nothing not to like about it. It does, however, come in at a premium price. The RRP is £28 but there are some multibuy deals (at the time of writing) which nudges the price down to £22 per glove, which is still at the expensive end. However if you do desire the very best, then this glove is as good as it gets.

TravisMathew Premier 2.0
I’ve tested the Premier 2.0 over a dozen rounds and a similar number of practice sessions, generally in unseasonably fine and warm UK weather.
It has proved to be durable, with no significant signs of wear. It grips well as you would expect a Cabretta glove to do. There has been no discernible sign of loosening of fit. And it offers first class breathability in the warm and dry Spring that we are experiencing.
I should add that there is a subtly embroidered message across the part of the glove covering the base of the fingers. TM call it a ‘grip location reminder to help your game and keep things lined up proper’. The message on my glove was ‘ Cash Please’. I have also seen ‘Insert beer here’. The message is hardly visible but it is the sort of feature that sets TM aside from most of the other brands. I liked it.

J.Lindeberg Ron Leather Golf Glove
I’ll be honest, there has been times when I have preferred not to use a golf glove or haven’t seen the appeal of them. But, over recent years I now cannot play without wearing one and this J.Lindeberg Ron leather premium golf glove might be the best one I have used yet.
The finest AAA cabretta leather allows for an incredibly soft feel which just makes playing in it seamless. A perforated palm also helps to maximise performance and breathability by ensuring a good flow of air around the hand which prevents any overheating.
Overall, I really loved testing this J.Lindeberg golf glove. It is a great fit and offers plenty of grip for a confident swing. I was massively impressed with the feel of the premium leather and I would definitely recommended giving this a go.
There are a few different colour ways to choose from, including a regular white offering, if navy isn’t your preference.

Srixon Cabretta Leather Golf Glove
Srixon have equipped the Cabretta leather golf glove with the use of silicon tanning process which works to deliver this premium grip. It also ensures a soft and subtle feel.
The perforations on the top of the hand, fingers and between the fingers increase the breathability and reduce the moisture. This breathable commodity will come into its own as the golf season develops and summer arrives. All golfers hate to have a sweaty hand in there glove that makes gripping the putter that bit more challenging.
Overall, this is a really premium product that is a joy to play golf in. It’s a great fit, promotes a confident swing with plenty of grip and seems to be durable.
For a premium leather golf glove, I also think it is extremely good value for money with plenty of other offerings that will give your back pocket a heftier blow.

Payntr X golf glove
The grip was excellent and the fit provided a stable grip throughout the swing. Payntr use Neverwet ™ technology for this glove to make it usable in the wet. I tried it with some moisture on it and the grip was pretty good. It is not a wet weather glove per-se but the technology would hopefully get you through a shower while playing.

I own couple of older Payntr gloves and I can attest to their durability. This is the more premium other two gloves but the other one is an excellent glove but a bit thicker so it depends what you like.
It represents good value and at the time of writing there were excellent reductions, as well as a 3 for 2 offer, on the Payntr website making it a bargain for a glove of this quality.

Payntr X-002 golf glove
It comes in a nicely presented and understated packet. It is made from cabretta leather and , while feeling supple, is definitely thicker than the Payntr X. The glove has 2 Lycra-Spandex inlays for comfort and flexibility. As with the Payntr-X it has an elasticated area at the join of the closure tab and the rest of the glove. This makes for a snug, yet flexible fit and presumably will help to stop ripping at this join.
I normally wear a medium, but I do like my gloves to be tight. I tried a medium-large and it fitted well. The slightly thicker leather made this feel a little tighter than the Payntr-X but the Lycra-Spandex panels allowed great flexibility. I found the fit excellent and the various elasticated areas made this versatile in finding the perfect fit. I would say the size is pretty similar to other brands.
In use it felt great. The leather is thick but supple. It has a good grip throughout the swing. There is not much more to say. This is a good value quality golf glove. As it is a bit thicker than the Payntr X my inclination is to use this more for day-to-day golf and practice.

Skins Golf Cabretta Leather golf glove
I’ve worn these gloves for a couple of months now, and so I am in a great place to comment on how the gloves play and last over a period of time. I’ve worn the same glove for probably over 10 rounds now, an I’ve not worn through it, and it has kept its shape really well.
Normally with a leather glove, I find that after a few rounds, the fingers can become baggy, or for some reason, the thumb loses its shape and twists; this does not happen with a Skins Golf glove.
I really like these gloves and am fairly confident anyone who tries one will too. There are loads of styles to choose from on the website (inc monsters and casino amongst the range) and if you get some, expect to receive compliments.

FootJoy StaSof Golf Glove
I have a tendency to be a little firm when gripping my clubs. That usually has disastrous effects for the lifespan of my gloves. I’ve normally got pronounced wear on the right side of the palm after the first round and this quickly spreads into the thumb and fingers.
I talked a little bit earlier about feel, but that is crucial ingredient into what makes this glove such a success. The cabretta leather is just gorgeous. It feels like it’s adapting to your hand rather than forcing it to fit into the construction. You feel like the glove and the grip are extensions of each other rather than fighting for superiority.
It’s versatile too. When I got caught in a shower, I immediately feared I’d soon have in my hands the crumpled, mis-shapen, never to be worn again mess I’ve experienced through the years wearing so many other gloves when the rain starts falling.

The FootJoy StaSof golf glove really is an exceptional product. It’s fabulous to wear, great fitting, complements your club grip which promotes a confident swing, and you can expect to wear it for the long haul. The breathable fabric will only come into its own as the days get warmer. Yes, it will hit your pocket a little harder than some of its competitors but you shouldn’t scrimp when it comes to such a key component of the game. You won’t regret the outlay.

MacWet Winter Climatec Gloves
MacWet are a sub-brand within Glenmuir/Sunderland. They’re renowned for their excellent gloves that are designed to make playing golf in the rain so much easier. This was my first time testing MacWet gloves and so I was looking forward to seeing how much they could help.
The Climatec gloves are unisex and are designed to provide warmth and comfort during those cooler months when it rains. On my hand they didn’t feel overally thick and so I wasn’t sure how much warmth they would provide when wet.
MacWet gloves don’t follow a conventional sizing guide with a numerical scale as a guide. I measured my hand and determined I was a 7.5 which is a medium on their chart and this fit snug but well.

Under Armour Spieth Tour Golf Glove
This is a comfortable glove from a top brand, all at a reasonable price.
The Spieth Tour is a close fitting and stylish glove that is a pleasure to wear. I do have one or two concerns about the durability of this particular model, but I notice there are deals available on the Under Armour website (at the time of writing) which allow you to purchase this glove for under £12 which represents pretty good value for such a comfortable and well-designed glove.

Leather vs synthetic gloves…which is the best?
Leather gloves tend to be a lot softer and thinner, meaning that you often feel like you have more feel with one on. Synthetic gloves tend to be a little thicker but this isn’t all bad as they often hold up much better in wet conditions as well as being more durable.
There is no right or wrong choice when it comes to choosing the glove that you use and it’s very much down to trial and error, as it’s personal preference.
Why should you wear a golf glove?
Some golfers may find the feeling of wearing a glove a little odd but they may be able to help save you some shots out on the course. A well-fitted glove will provide more grip than going bare-handed in many conditions. A glove will also help to protect your hand from blisters or other types of wear and tear. Wearing a glove on your non-dominant hand will also help balance up the strength in grip pressure between the hands when swinging the club.
How to look after your glove?
Golf gloves can last for many months depending on usage and grip pressure. It’s important that you store your glove in a dry place after use and allow it time to thoroughly dry out if damp/wet. Wet gloves can dry and have a crusty feel if not properly stretched out and cared for post-round.
What size glove do I need?
A golf glove isn’t designed to hinder golfers but to help them and so a glove shouldn’t feel baggy and uncomfortable. A good sizing reference guide is that a glove should come away from the centre of your palm very slightly as you extend your fingers. If you’re unable to fully extend your fingers without discomfort, the glove will likely be too small. Conversely, if you can extend your fingers with the leather sagging into your palm, it’s likely to be too large.
Remember, golf gloves will stretch with use and so something that seems a little tighter initially is probably going to be better than one that is already a little looser.
What glove/brand should I choose?
There is no right or wrong choice of glove or brand. A glove is very much down to a personal preference. Although some players may favour a certain type of brand, it’s not to say that, that the gloves they produce you. Some many brands produce gloves with a huge range of styles and sizes and so it’s worth exploring your options.
