What’s New In The World Of Equipment?

What’s new in the world of equipment? Hannah Holden has the details…

Brands are constantly releasing new golf equipment, from hardware to shoes, clothes and accessories. In this article, we will keep you updated with all the latest gear, from TaylorMade Qi10 drivers to new Titleist golf balls or Puma golf shoes.

With the autumn and winter months nearing, the shorts will go back into the depths of wardrobes up and down the country. Jackets, gillets and quarter zips will instead be fished out.

In anticipation for the colder weather, FootJoy have added new technological initiatives to their HydroSeries and ThermoSeries collections. They say this has resulted in their best rainwear and thermal gear to date.

As well as added technologies, new colours and styling have given both men and women golfers a fresh look with the updated Hydro Lite X Jacket. In addition, the ThermoSeries has received an update for men’s and women’s wear.

HydroTour Jacket

Starting off with the updated rainwear products. FootJoy’s main jacket from their HydroSeries the HydroTour jacket, has received a new design and technological features.

The jacket is storm-proven and waterproof, ideal for British winters. Its waterproofing is aided by the three-layer, four-way waterproof fabric interwoven in it.

FootJoy claim the four-way stretching fabric also helps with mobility and to be able to swing fluidly whilst wearing a jacket.

Its DrySteal collar also prevents water from going down the golfers neck, for when the rainy season season arrives.

HydroLite X Jacket

As it names suggests, this is a lighter waterproof jacket that is more ideal for warmer conditions. Its waterproofing and breathability does make it a versatile jacket for battling a number of different weather types.

FootJoy say theY have maximised the mobility of the jacket with their engineered knit panelling. Also helping with comfort whilst playing is an overlapping hem construction, which reduces the bulkiness at address.

As well as the jacket, FootJoy has released a HydroLite X trouser and hoodie to supply a more modern option to their lineup.

TheromoSeries

New for 2024, as part of FootJoy’s ThermoSeries, is the Hybrid Jacket. Offers added warmth and heat retention for when those temperatures plummet.

Joining the jacket is the Pullover Hoodie which has a waffle fleece lining to allow for that freedom golfers need, even in winter.

Additionally, the men’s wear has seen an introduction of new vests, jackets and mid layers. These all feature FootJoy’s water-resistant PFC free C0 DWR finish for added protection.

For women golfers, a new insulated jacket and vest have been added to their ThermoSeries lineup. Footjoy say these offer comfort whilst looking modern.

There’s also a new ThermoSeries trouser available, again with four-way stretch for movement benefits.

Additional thermal mid layers, bottoms and accessories have updated the women’s FootJoy Essentials collection.

Let’s hope there’s still some summer left, but when that’s passed its good to know there’s some waterproof gear to see through winter.

Big Max to make luxurious golf bags available

Having the right golf bag can make a world of difference to organising your round of golf. Golf bags come in all shapes and sizes, possessing different features, with various qualities.

Big Max have released two new bags, which they claim combines practicality and functionality with style.

The luxury starts with the Vegan PU leather that makes up the construction of the bag. Additionally, I think to the joy of many, the styling of the bag contains little and discrete branding.

In terms of practicality, both bags have waterproof pockets, which are a necessity for playing golf in the UK. they also boast 14-way full length dividers and have soft top that is unique to the bags in helping to keep clubs from scratching.

Dri Lite Prime and Dre Lite Hybrid Prime are the two new bags available from Big Max.

Dri Lite Prime Golf Bag

A cart bag that offers great space with 10 pockets. All of the pockets include a magnetic fastening instead of a zip for convenience and extra waterproof protection. There is a sunglasses compartment in the valuables pocket, whilst the larger pockets feature waterproof zippers.

Minimalism is a feature of this bag, according to Big Max. They also say there is enough room for two water bottles in the cooler pocket, for extra convenience.

RRP: £349

Dre Lite Hybrid Prime

Hybrid golf bags are extremely popular in the golf industry. For someone looking to carry their clubs but with cart bag features, then a hybrid bag is the one for you.

That set up is the same here, as it takes the luxury of the Prime bag added with the functionality of the hybrid set up. To make it comfortable to carry with padded dual straps. It is also very lightweight, weighing just 2.9kg.

The bag can also be used on a trolley, due to its flat footless base, leg lock and lower housing of the stand mechanism. Big MAX claim the bag won’t move around when in place on a trolley.

Like the Prime bag the pockets are waterproof, with this bag holding seven of them. Additionally, a host of practical features are included as well, such s a glove and tool holder.

RRP: £229

New Junior Golf Sets from Hogan Golf

Getting kids into golf can be both a joy and a pain. Introducing the sport to the next generation of players can be a hugely rewarding thing, but for parents/guardians who may have never payed golf it can seem quite confusing as to what juniors need to start playing.

For a while now, package sets have been the go to. Hogan have released a range of sets to help juniors from 3-12 to get going.

Three age-related sets have been released, in total, all of which come with a lightweight that is suitable to carry and can also fit on a trolley.

Let’s take a look at each new set…

Hogan Golf FTS Junior Set (3-5)

This set is designed for the youngest golfers. Featuring a driver, 9-iron and a putter only, entry level junior golfers will find this suitable.

The driver is compounded using a lightweight, graphite shaft and also has an enlarged sweet spot on the club face. All making it easier to smash the ball as far as possible.

A wide sole design allows the club to launch the ball high up more effortlessly, and the putter is a mallet design which has an ultra-forgiving face to improve consistency. With a head cover, for the driver, and a Hogan FTS Lightweight Single Strap Floppy Bag the clubs can be stored and transported safely in style.

RRP: £89.99

Hogan Golf FTS Junior Set (6-8)

For the jump up in age group, and subsequent growth, the clubs are supplied with slightly longer shafts. The clubs include a confidence-inspiring design, lightweight graphite shafts over-sized club heads, and enlarged sweetspots.

The type of clubs remain the same as the previous set, just with a 7-iron added. Hogan golf believe this is a key club to help with the developing of a junior’s course management, as it is ideal for shots into the green as well as using off the tee.

Included in the set is a Dual Strap Stand bag. It has a four-way organiser and four zipper compartments.

RRP: £119.99

Hogan Golf FTS Junior Set (9-12)

This set is an ideal stop gap set for older juniors, before they switch to adult clubs. To help gauge that gap between those who would still benefit off a junior set, and not ready for a half-set of adult clubs, Hogan have made this a 5-club set.

A driver, hybrid, 7-iron, 9-iron and a putter are included. Again, the shafts are adjusted to be more age appropriate as well as the inclusion of a 22° hybrid.

Hogan Golf believe the hybrid possesses great versatility and will benefit a junior golfer from a range of different lies and scenarios on the golf course.

The bag is a Dual Strap Stand one, featuring a 4-way organiser, four pockets, a rain hood, and a towel ring.

RRP: £139.99

J.Lindeberg expand golf shoe collection

The clothing brand continues its strong venture into golf with the release of a new golf shoe. The Fairway Brogue.

J.Lindeberg have designed the model to be available for both men and women. For those golfers who like to wear more traditional clothing and footwear out on the course, then this could be a variable option for you.

Sticking with the more traditional theme, J.Lindeberg have only made the Fairway Brogues available in white and black. To help give them their more professional appearance, the shoes are made from top-grade full-grain leather. As well as giving it that classic look, the leather also helps deliver, what J.Lindeberg say is, exceptional durability.

The shoe does have more modern features. It uses an EVA midsole, a supportive insole, and breathable lining to help with comfort. Supplies more superior shock absorption.

Additionally, the rubber outsole means the shoe also offers stability for the golfer.

As well as releasing a new shoe, J.Lindeberg have also released new seasonal colours for their signature Vent 500 and Range Finder models. For men, a Barbados Cherry and a Forest Green offering are now available. For women, Moonbeam and Pink Peacock are the new colours on offer.

The Fairway Brogue’s and the new colour schemes for the Vent500s are available now to purchase.

TaylorMade introduce TP5 and TP5x Stripe Golf Ball to help with alignment

Two of the best selling and some of them most used golf balls on tour are now available as a Stripe golf ball. Golfers will now have the luxury of TaylorMade’s 360° ClearPath Alignment technology.

The TP5 and TP5x Stripe golf balls are designed to help players with alignment, making it easier to hit more accurate putts. There is a clear 22-millimeter digital band that wraps around the centre of the golf ball with a thin black line to match putter sight lines. This provides players with alignment aim aid.

TaylorMade have also designed the ball so that golfers can easily identify a slight miss-hit in a strike. Clean strikes roll consistently towards the hole, which helps less established golfers in working on their putting stroke, for example.

Performance from tee to green is also helped through the Stipe’s technological features. The ball promotes less with the use of a driver, fairway woods and long irons. But, maintains high spin levels for wedge play and other approach shots with short irons. This is achieved through the speed gradient construction which incorporates a five-layer design that optimises variable stiffness between the core and mantle layers.

Speaking of technology, the ball also includes a Speed Wrapped Core that’s foundin both TP5 and TP5x Stripe. TaylorMade say that this material allows for a soft sound and feel, whilst resulting in quick ball speeds.

New waterproof range released by Galvin Green

Sorry to say but Autumn is nearly upon us. Here in the UK it seems as though summer has only just started, but wetter months are only just around the corner.

In anticipation of the bad weather, that will not doubt come our way, Galvin Green have launched a new range of fully waterproof jackets and pants. Menswear, womenswear and junior golfers have all been covered by the latest release. The range, an extended DRYVR waterproof collection, consists of 21 pieces in total.

Galvin Green say that their new jacket’s are the stretchiest they have ever produced.

Mens Collection

The mens collection is headlined by the all-new Ames full-zip jacket, which the brand say delivers impressive stretch and freedom of movement. This is helped by the Pertex Shield Stretch used in the jacket. Additional features include front pockets, chest with tabs and adjustable hand cuffs.

For men, there are 10 waterproof jackets and three pants made available in total and in sizes ranging up to 5XL.

Womens Collection

Included in the women’s collection is an AMY jacket which also features the Pertex Shield Stretch and incorporates similar performance features as the mens range.

There are three waterproof jackets to choose from in the DRYVR collection. Additionally, two pairs of waterproof pants are available to choose from. Jacket sizes range up to XXL.

Junior Collection

Aged at golfers aged nine to 15, they have added additional colours to the popular ROBERT GORE-TEX jacket. Galvin Green have also added a new Rico hoodie and Rocco shirt.

ECCO launch sneaker-style shoe

This is great news, for me. I love a trainer-style golf shoe. Rarely do I ever play golf with any other type of shoe now. Some people may think their a bit casual for golf, but I personally prefer the look and comfort the bring.

ECCO have announced the release of a new sneaker golf shoe as part of their lifestyle collection, for the brand’s autumn release. The Norwegian brand claim the ECCO Golf Street 720, their new shoe, is simple to lace up and can be used outside of the golf course as well.

Having golf gear that can be passed of as casual wear is a major plus for many golfers. The shoe is suitable for different weather conditions and terrains with the inclusion of the E-DTS TWIST outsole, according to the brand.

GORETEX Surround is used to help with the waterproofing and breathability. ECCO have made the shoe available in a choice of colour schemes.

Scotty Cameron release new putters

Titleist have announced that there is a new release of the globally loved Scotty Cameron putter. Scotty Cameron B3 Triple Black Design LTD putters are a classic looking putter which Titleist say have a playable design and a Tour Black finish.

The special release putters feature four of Scotty Cameron’s most popular blade configurations, but now have a “triple black” finish to them. This includes the shaft, finish and grip. Inspiration for this specific design comes from the convertible car culture in which a black paintjob, black interior and black soft top signifies a “triple black” colour combination.

You are able to purchase, in select stores, the new B3 Triple Black Design LTD putters in four different models. These models are the Newport 2, Newport 2 Long Neck, Santa Fe and Catalina.

The Newport 2 model is the main putter from the lineup and is modelled after the mechanical shape of the Super Select Newport 2. I available in right-hand and left-hand.

For a more straight-back-straight-through putting stroke, then the Newport 2 long neck will be your preferred option.

The Santa Fe is inspired by the popular earlier model. It features an I-beam style flare 1.5 neck and a shape based on the softer, rounded features of the Super Select Newport.

The Catalina offers a player bar-face balance performance, according to Titleist. This is because the updated setup features a shaft-over-spud design and a modern single bend shaft.

Women’s team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games confirmed

USA Golf have announced the lineup for their women’s team who will be vying for gold in Paris. Led by the World number one, Nelly Korda, the USA will be looking to defend their gold medal which Korda won at the 2020 Olympics Games in Tokyo.

In addition to Korda, two debutants will be making their Olympics debut – Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang. Both women are ranked inside the top 10 of the world rankings with Vu currently second only to Korda after winning two of the five majors last season.

Qualification was decided based on on their standing in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings after the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

As with the men’s team, the women will be outfitted in a custom J.Lindeberg “Red, White, Blue for Gold” collection.

“As these talented athletes take to the field, they will be expected to be standard-bearers of excellence,” says Hans-Christian Meyer, CEO of J.Lindeberg. “And their gear, crafted with our utmost precision and care, will help them make that statement to the world.”

Women’s golf at the Olympics is set to ru from August 7-10 at Le Golf National, the host venue for the 2018 Ryder Cup.

J.Lindeberg have partnered with the DP World Tour

The Swedish golf brand have expanded their influence with the game after they announced a multi-year partnership with the DP World Tour, becoming the official clothing supplier of the tour.

As part of the partnership, J.Lindeberg have also become the Official Clothing Supplier of two of the Tour’s more high-profile events and key dates in the DP World tour calendar – the Genesis Scottish Open and the BMW PGA Championship. The Rolex events are a big catch for the golf brand to be associated with, as they draw stacked fields, especially since the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour struck their own partnership.

Tournament branded clothing will be made available for the wider golfing community to buy, as they outfit DP Tour personnel with what they say are bespoke, specialised products.

J.Lindeberg say that the partnership will ‘significantly elevate both the on- and off-course experience for staff, fans, and J.Lindeberg ambassadors such as DP World Tour players Viktor Hovland and Matt Wallace’.

The outdoor Swedish sportswear brand have announced that their newest shorts range is now available, realising both a men’s and ladies’ collection. Abacus say the collections are game-changing having drawn on it’s experience of enhancing performance with technical materials and an innovative design.

Their SS24 collection uses the same technological features found in its best-selling range of trousers, including four-way stretch, the use of breathable and lightweight fabrics, as well as golf-specific design touches.

For the men’s range, Abacus have released the HUNTINGDALE shorts. The shorts provide ultimate comfort, according to Abacus, as they are made from the lightweight, breathable, and four-way stretch material that is the polyester/elastane material mix.

New Golf Equipment For 2024

There are loads of great new products from some of the biggest brands in the game for 2024 perhaps the most notable being the new driver line-up, including three 10k drivers.

Drivers

Callaway Drivers 2024

Paradym was extremely successful for Callaway in 2023, so this year they have kept the name but added a new twist. The new Paradym Ai Smoke range features four models, the Triple Diamond, Max, Max D and Max Fast.

Artificial intelligence is one of Callaway’s superpowers when designing new equipment. It has brought us technologies such as Jailbreak, Flash Cup Face, and Ai-Optimised Club Faces. For 2024, Callaway has combined this with in-person player testing to drive the design of their latest drivers.

This year the all-new Ai Smart Face is the big Ai story. It uses swing dynamics data from thousands of real golfers to make the supercomputer Ai technology even more accurate. Swing speed, club delivery and face orientation just before impact have been fed into the computer to give it more information on how golfers present the golf club at impact and how the driver needs to perform to boost the performance of real golfers.

TaylorMade Drivers 2024

The most forgiving family of drivers ever? TaylorMade claims to have unlocked a new frontier of forgiveness in their Qi10 lineup, so what’s new?

And what about the name? Qi stands for the Quest for Inertia, or to put it in a more understandable way, the quest to produce the best balance of speed and forgiveness. The Max model even toppled the 10,000 MOI mark for the first time in driver history.

Cobra Drivers 2024

For 2024, Cobra is introducing three drivers as part of their new Darkspeed Metalwoods range. The Darkspeed family uses advanced aerodynamic shaping, meaning that every driver’s head has a different weight configuration designed to suit individual players’ requirements.

The Darkspeed range is Cobra’s first product to use AI technology. The Ai-designed H.O.T Face Technology has been used to create a face that has both optimised smash factor and ball speed data. From this, the reformed Pwrshell face insert is now 13% larger than the one found in the previous generation Aerojet drivers.

Not only has the face been upgraded, but so has the overall structure of the driver’s head. A multi-material chassis features a lightweight carbon crown, which is 30% thinner than the Aerojet driver. This lighter top is combined with sole plates and a reinforced titanium frame, which creates a more stable club head.

PXG Drivers 2024

PXG have been trending in the driver category over the last few years, growing in popularity with club golfers and on tour. This year is set to be their biggest yet with the launch of the brand-new Black Ops range.

The range is already in the bag of Major Champion Celine Boutier and has helped Eric Cole lock up PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
