What’s new? How much does it cost? Max McVittie brings you the lowdown on the new, environmentally friendly, Srixon Z-Star golf balls.
Srixon offer some of the best value golf balls for amateurs on the market. Historically the brand are generally associated to provide golf balls for higher handicappers but they do have successful professionals like the 2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry and the 2021 Masters Champion Hideki Matsuyama using their premium models. Hideki starting 2025 in fine style with a record winning score using the Srixon Z-Star XV model.
They have updated their Z-Star series line-up to offer a variety of performance benefits including Tour level spin, increased distance and better control. These latest innovations will make them hard to overlook for all golfers.
Let’s take a look at what makes these golf balls so intriguing…
Srixon Z-Star Series Golf Balls: The Technology
Each new model is equipped with a thin new premium Urethane cover with biomass. This newly formulated feature creates a cover that promotes tour-level stopping power on the greens for greater distance control and keeping the ball on the putting surface.

To help with aim on the greens the divide models include a 360°seam line that comes from the 50/50 colour scheme of white and yellow.
The make-up off the golf balls is also completed with a durable coating which Srixon have named as the Spin Skin+. Again this focuses on helping to deliver maximum spin across the range as it works with the wedges and irons by digging deep into the grooves upon impact.
Mud balls can often be a pain, especially at this time of the year when golf courses are wetter and the ground is softer. But this new coating helps in resisting dirt and grime, working to ensure a cleaner golf ball for a more pure strike.
The cover is also made of biomass materials to help reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions during the manufacturing process than what a more traditional material for golf balls would emit. Positively, the effects of this are vast as the reduction Carbon Dioxide emissions is equivalent to the same of 31 million plastic bottles.

Srixon in being more environmentally friendly, Srixon have used urethane derived from Biopolyol which is ultimately extracted from corn.
In addition to a new cover, every Z-Star series golf ball has a new core which starts softer towards the centre but becomes significantly firmer around the edges. This firmer feel gives quicker swinging players more spin with their irons for better control when hitting into the greens. It also helps to increase the ball speed for added distance off the tee.
The distance is also enhanced by the dimple pattern on the exterior of the ball. Srixon have labelled the design the 388 SpeedDimple Pattern which they say enables the golf ball to travel through the air with less drag and more lift even in strong wind conditions.
