Do you now need to pay for HowDidiDo?

The new HowDidiDo app has been completely rebuilt and launches this month. But it will now come at a price – and who is going to pay?

  • Why could golfers have to pay for the new howdidido app?

Golfers who use a popular club mobile app will have to pay for the privilege following a major revamp.

The new HowDidiDo app launches on January 12 and developers Club Systems are introducing a charge to use it.

Members will pay £2.99 a year for a standard app subscription, or £9.99 per year for an ad-free version.

Alternatively, golf clubs can pay £1,400 per year for the app in a “limited time offer”, which covers all subscriptions and also gives members an ad-free experience.

Unveiling the new HowDidiDo late last year, the company revealed the app has been “rebuilt from the ground up to give golfers like you a smoother, smarter, and more connected experience than before”.

The redeveloped app will quickly replace the current HowDidiDo app, with the ClubV1 Members Hub “discontinued eventually”.

The software aims to offer an easier log-in process, a new dashboard showing handicaps, competition entries, bookings and club balances at a glance, as well as a “better score entry experience”.

Players will also be able to set in-app reminders for upcoming competition bookings, along with adding events directly to a calendar.

While clubs or individual golfers will pay to access the new app, the website will remain free to use, but will continue to have adverts displayed on it.

Why could golfers have to pay for the new HowDidiDo app?

In an email to golfers, HowDidiDo said: “We are excited to announce that the new app and website will be available for all current users from Monday 12th January 2026.

“As part of this exciting transition, we want to be completely transparent about how the new app will work and what this means for you and your club.”

They added: “To use the new fully-native HowDidiDo app, there will now be an annual subscription charge.

“We understand that HowDidiDo has been a free-to-use service for many years, which is why we want to make it clear that the above subscription prices apply only to the HowDidiDo mobile app.

“For golfers who prefer to use the new fully mobile responsive website instead (or as well as), HowDidiDo.com will remain completely free-to-use for all members but will continue to have adverts displayed.”

The HowDidiDo community comprises over a million golfers across more than 2,000 golf clubs in the UK and Ireland.

Members who download the new app will need to re-register, but all scores – going back to 2010 – will be migrated.

In their email to golfers, the HowDidiDo team added: “This isn’t just an update: it’s a complete transformation for golfers who want everything in one place”.

Club Systems have issued a list of FAQs about the new app on their website.

Now have your say

What do you think about the new HowDidiDo app? Do you use the existing app? Are you going to pay for the new one, or are your club going to bear the burden? Let me know in the comments, or get in touch on X.
