DP World Tour preview: Magical Kenya Open TV times and betting tips

The DP World returns after a short break and we’re off to a new venue in Africa. Barry Plummer has everything you need to know

Kenya Open

With a return to DP World Tour action comes another chance for us to pick a winner, and after coming so close last week I feel it could be about to happen. The Kenya Open has moved venue this year, so event form, while still relevant, needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Nevertheless, after sifting through the field I have picked out three players that I feel have a great chance here. But before I get into my free golf betting tips…

  • PGA TOUR PREVIEW: Arnold Palmer Invitational

Magical Kenya Open details

Venue: Muthaiga Golf Club, Nairobi, Kenya

Date: March 3-6, 2022

Course stats: Par 71; 7,184 yards

Course summary: This parkland course packs a lot of history, and certainly offers a different challenge to the one players are used to. A much longer front-nine, in comparison to the back-nine, will test players right out of the gate, and with four par-5s on offer there should be plenty of opportunities to score low. Similarly to Karen Country Club, the previous host venue, altitude will play a big part and needs consideration.

Purse: €1.750 million

Defending champion: Justin Harding (-21)

Magical Kenya Open TV coverage

Magical Kenya Open golf betting tips

Bazza’s Banker: Johannes Veerman – 2pt win @ 22/1 with Bet365

Veerman has had an excellent start to the DP World Tour season, with two 12th place finishes either side of a T35 at the Dubai Desert Classic. We know from previous editions of this event that Veerman can play great golf in this part of the world, as he finished T16 at Karen Country Club in 2021. The American is yet to win on the DP World Tour, so a somewhat weaker field event like this could be the perfect opportunity.

Veerman is a solid ball striker who ranked 8th for Par-5 scoring in 2021, so should relish the opportunity to take on all four this week. Veerman is a consistent type, much like Aaron Rai who has won here previously, so has every chance if he can continue his fine run of form.

The Each-Way Play: Connor Syme – 1pt e/w @ 60/1with Bet365

I am a true believer that recent form married with event/course form are a winning combination, and that is exactly what we have in Syme this week. The Scotsman finished T6 last time out at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic, and was tremendous when finishing third in this event last year. Now obviously that occurred at a different venue, but the same principles of solid ball striking and altitude apply here and I think this price is too big.

Last time out, Syme ranked 26th for SG: Tee-to-green, 9th for SG: Around-the-green and 18th for SG: Putting – which all adds up to a pretty decent each way bet should he carry that over through the break.

The Long Shot: Guido Migliozzi – 0.5pt e/w @ 100/1 with Bet365

This may be something I later regret, but I am prepared to look past Migliozzi’s dismal recent run of form and instead look at him as a former champion with a great price. I think it is fair to say that Migliozzi hasn’t been at this best so far this season, making just one cut with a best finish of T67. However, a strong start two tournaments ago was a good sign and he may have needed the enforced break to kick start his season.

The big reason why I like Migliozzi at this price is that he fits the test well statistically. Looking back to 2021, the Italian ranked 15th for Par-3 scoring and 16th for Par-5 scoring, which on this course will put you in great shape. His ball striking was also very consistent, so if he turns up anywhere near back to his best this price will look very silly.

For more prices, visit Bet365.
