Original Penguin Earl Full Zip Waterproof Jacket

The Original Penguin Golf Earl Full Zip Waterproof Jacket is constructed from polyester and polyurethane to create a moisture wicking fabric. The jacket is waterproof to 15,000mm, and thanks to OPG’s moisture management system, you should easily be able to spend four hours in constant rain out on the golf course without getting wet. The jacket has two warm pockets so that you can keep your hands warm and dry throughout. It is also adjustable in two ways. The waist hem can be adjusted with toggles inside the jacket to make it tighter to the body. The wrist cuffs can then also be adjusted via a Velcro strap, also to make it tighter. The only slight issue I have with this waterproof jacket is that there is no hood. Admittedly, hoods are not often worn on the golf course, but if you’re not a hat-wearer, then wanting to put a hood up whilst in the rain is a must. Due to the fabric and the sizing, the OPG Earl Full Zip Waterproof Jacket is very comfortable must-have, though, being tight but not restrictive to the golf swing.

Original Penguin Golf Earl Waterproof Pant

Comfortable, lightweight and waterproof. That perfectly describes the Original Penguin Golf Earl Waterproof Pant. It is constructed from polyester and polyurethane to create a moisture wicking fabric. These OPG pants are waterproof to 15,000mm, waterproof enough to keep you dry through constant rain over a four-hour round, thanks to OPG’s moisture management system. The pants have deep pockets for all your golfing equipment, while also then having openings to allow you to continue making the most of your trouser or shorts pockets. The waist is adjustable thanks to a drawcord and elasticated band, while the ankle hems have three size options. Due to the fabric and the sizing, the OPG Earl Waterproof Pants are very comfortable, both with trousers and shorts being worn underneath. They are a must-have for the winter season, with both comfort and waterproofing being at the highest level.

Original Penguin Performance Golf Trouser

The Original Penguin Performance Golf Trouser is a great piece of kit, and a pair of trousers that you could arguably wear year-round. For winter wear, the thickness and snugness of the Performance Golf Trouser is welcomed to keep your legs warm in cold conditions. The snugness also means that these trousers are very comfortable, and the fabric is also stretchy enough to allow for bending down to put a tee in the ground or lining up putts. The fabric also means that the trousers are water resistant, with them able to withstand a lengthy period in persistent rain. The deep pockets allow for plenty of tees, balls and other golfing equipment, with four pockets in the trousers in total. Original Penguin offer a range of colours including black, grey and navy. One slight snag is that the snugness could be taken for these trousers being too tight, but the 32/32 pair that I had on were spot on.

Original Penguin Golf Insulated Mixed Media 80’s Jacket

Another good-looking part of the Original Penguin AW23 collection is the Insulated Mixed Media 80’s Jacket. The jacket features the OPG moisture management system to keep you dry in rainy conditions, along with a water repellent coating to provide extra protection from the elements. The front, back and sleeves all have extra padding and insulation to keep your body warm and dry, while the side and inside arm panels are jersey knit for comfort and warmth. The jacket’s waistband is elasticated to provide some stretch if required, while the wrist cuffs are adjustable, thanks to a Velcro strap. The three-colour design is stylish while the inner lining has Pete the Penguin silhouettes throughout. The jacket is available in three colourways, all of which look good out on the golf course. Due to its thickness, the Original Penguin Golf Insulated Mixed Media 80’s Jacket is slightly restrictive when trying to swing a club, but the warmth and waterproofing makes up for that.

Quilted Polar Pete Cap

Plenty of players will wear woolly hats in the winter. However, for those who continue to wear caps all year round, the Original Penguin Quilted Polar Pete Cap is a comfortable and good-looking option.

The black peak which encompasses the authentic Original Penguin logo on the front is stylish. It also features an overlapping pattern of Pete logos across the brim. The quilted effect on the front of the cap is a lovely touch and has a very nice feel to it.

However, one problem of playing in inclement weather though is that the material is not great in wet conditions. The blend of acrylic and wool fabric lends itself to becoming sodden in poor conditions, which could see the cap become heavy on the head.

Original Penguin Quilted Flat Cap

A different look for AW23 is brought to the course by the Original Penguin Quilted Flat Cap. The sleek and elegant design is akin to that seen in Peaky Blinders and that is certainly a selling point for this product. The gold stitching around the brim and outer edges of the cap is a lovely design with the logo – ‘an original Penguin by Munsingwear’ sewn in beautifully into the back section of the cap. In inner material is quilted, with overlapping penguin Petes stitched in for another cool plus. That mix of materials on both inside and outside provides warmth for the head, and with the moisture-wicking sweatband, the Quilted Flat Cap can also be worn in the summer months as well. Due to the material of the cap, rain could become an issue, with the hat becoming heavy and sodden. That’s the only negative for this sleek and elegant design of flat cap from Original Penguin.

Original Penguin Golf Gloves Winter Patterned Pair

What do you need in winter? Winter gloves. Original Penguin have produced a quality pair for the AW23 catalogue. The Winter Patterned Pair provide warmth while out on the course, while also being able to be used when playing shots, instead of having to take them off and putting your normal golf glove back on. The inner layer of the glove is comfortable, while the outside look is stylish. The quilted effect on the back of the palms is gorgeous, and is the same as the front of the Quilted Polar Pete Cap. The overlapping penguin design is sublime, and the index finger and thumb on both gloves also has fabric that allows you to use a touch screen device. This is brilliant for the winter months as your hands will not get cold if needing to use your phone. A downside to the gloves is that when wearing both, it does become slightly too thick to have a comfortable grip of your club (if using normal sized grips). The waterproofing of the gloves would also be put to the test in heavy rain, but in fine rain and drizzle, these are stunning and comfortable to wear.

Original Penguin Pullover Ltwt Heritage QZ

The Ltwt Heritage QZ Pullover is one of the nicest pieces of clothing in the Original Penguin AW23, and it comes in a range of colours. All three colour patterns are good-looking, with the light-blue and grey combination standing out from the crowd. The flexible performance fabric can provide warmth and comfort, perfect for a mid-layer. Along with comfort, the fabric also stretches nicely to the body, and the fact that the product is made from recycled materials is just another plus for this mid-layer piece of gear. However, at £65, it is more than the average golfer might expect to pay for a product of this type. Add to that that this Ltwt Heritage QZ Pullover is quite thin, it might not be the right type of mid-layer gear for the winter months. In windy conditions, it can still be quite cold despite wearing this product.

Original Penguin Quarter Zip Penguin Print Golf Windbreaker Jacket

If you’re looking for a lightweight jacket for your next round of golf, then look no further than the Original Penguin Quarter Zip Penguin Print Golf Windbreaker Jacket. Made from 100% polyester, the jacket is very lightweight and easy to get around in. It does not restrict your swing whatsoever, and almost feels like you’re not wearing a jacket at all! Despite that, it is still designed with functionality in mind, with the jacket featuring a hooded collar and long sleeves for protection from wind and rain. The penguin pattern print also provides a fun element to the product, showing off your style on the course. At £85, it is quite expensive as a windbreaker, and due to the lightness of the material, it may not keep you as warm as other products in the AW23 range. However, for the fun and light-hearted side of it, this windbreaker is a must-buy!

This is a really warm stylish gilet for the winter months. I love the fact this has a decent thickness to this and is actually very insulated, so it is a great layering piece. 

As this is such a thick build it wouldn’t really work if you wanted to add a waterproof jacket over the top, and it is quite bulky to pack away in your bag mid round which is something to consider. The main body is fairly shower proof though so fine if you get caught in light rain.  

This has two side pockets which are thick and perfect for keeping your hands warm. They are also zippered so perfect for storage without losing any items in your golf swing.  

I generally wear a UK size 8/10 in tops. This is a size medium, and I would say it is probably a size too big for me unless I had lots of layers underneath it.

This jacket is a perfect all-in-one winter apparel piece to keep you warm this winter. The navy design is very smart, and I like the additional touches of the contrasting colour stripes across the chest. Although this is a thicker piece it is still really easy and comfortable to swing in.  

I generally wear a UK size 8/10 in tops. This is a size small and fits perfectly. I really like the overall silhouette and styling and think it is very flattering. The body and arms are long enough to be comfortable and keep you warm without interfering in the golf swing. 

It has two good-sized pockets to keep items such as tee pegs and golf balls in. I like the fact these aren’t zipped so you can easily get your hands in and out to keep them warm out on the golf course.

Original Penguin Women’s Contrast Piping Quarter Zip Golf Sweatshirt

This is a really funky quarter-zip jacket, with a bold eye-catching design, the contrast colour piping adds nice visual interest. 

The main body is made from a waffle double knit fabric which makes it much warmer than most mid layers which is perfect for winter golf. But I do like the fact it is still thin enough to allow you to put a waterproof jacket over the top should you get stuck in a shower.  

I generally wear a UK size 8/10 in tops. This is a size small and fits perfectly. I really like the overall silhouette and styling and think it is very flattering. The body and arms are long enough to be comfortable and keep you warm without interfering in the golf swing.  

There is also the added bonus that this is perfect for supporting the European teams this winter.

Original Penguin Women’s Jacquard Floral Golf Jumper

How cool is this design?! I absolutely adore the pattern of this jumper and know the floral design also nods towards a golf ball on a tee. It is nice to have something really different and out there in a sea of plain navy apparel.  

The soft knit fabric is extremely comfortable. It is thick enough to be warm but isn’t too bulky that it can’t be layered. This also makes it really easy to swing in and the body is long enough that it doesn’t ride up at all when you follow through. The contrast colour ribbed trim on the wrists is designed to be folded back so you can adjust the arms to the perfect length for you. This is really handy to make sure there isn’t too much material around the wrist when you are trying to hit the ball. I generally wear a UK size 8/10 in tops. This is a size small and fits perfectly. 

This is one of my favourite jumpers I have tested for autumn winter, and it will become a staple in my golfing wardrobe.
