Best Golf Windbreakers

Abacus Men’s Lytham Softshell Jacket

4.5 star review
best golf windbreaker

RRP £90

The Lytham softshell jacket is made from a stretchy fabric that is also very breathable. Abacus designate it as a ‘completely windproof’ garment, but it also has a waterproof rating of 8,000 which means it will deal with light to medium showers.

It is a full-zip construction with two roomy front zip pockets and an elasticated hem with drawcord adjustability. At the top, there is a nice high collar with a chin guard for the zip.

I tend to go up a size in Abacus outerwear and the large size fitted my non-athletic 74kg, 173 cm frame just right.

I tested the version in a lovely navy colour. Initially, it looked a little plain, but the material does have a subtle texture, which may not be visible on the pictures. It’s easy to layer under due to the stretchiness of the material.

Although you can cover the Lytham with a dedicated waterproof jacket, that doesn’t work particularly well. So, if significant rain is forecast, save the Lytham for another day. Other than that, it works nicely in a range of weather. It is windproof, practical and comfortable to wear and swing in. As a bonus, it’s also a useful general-purpose jacket for a range of outdoor activities.

PROS

  • Warm & comfortable
  • Wind & shower proof
  • Useful zipped pockets

CONS

  • Slightly bulky to stow away

Sizes: S-XXXL
Colour: Royal blue, Navy, Black

Original Penguin Quarter Zip Penguin Print Golf Windbreaker Jacket

4.5 star review
best golf windbreaker

RRP £85

If you’re looking for a lightweight jacket for your next round of golf, then look no further than the Original Penguin Quarter Zip Penguin Print Golf Windbreaker Jacket.

Made from 100% polyester, the jacket is very lightweight and easy to get around in. It does not restrict your swing whatsoever, and almost feels like you’re not wearing a jacket at all!

Despite that, it is still designed with functionality in mind, with the jacket featuring a hooded collar and long sleeves for protection from wind and rain. The penguin pattern print also provides a fun element to the product, showing off your style on the course.

At £85, it is quite expensive as a windbreaker, and due to the lightness of the material, it may not keep you as warm as other products in the AW23 range. However, for the fun and light-hearted side of it, this windbreaker is a must-buy!

PROS

  • Lightweight
  • Stylish
  • Water-resistant

CONS

  • Thin material

Sizes: S-2XL
Colour: Black & Grey / Black & Blue

Stromberg Weather Tech Waterproof Golf Jacket

4.5 star review
best golf windbreaker

RRP £79.99

The Stromberg Men’s Weather Tech waterproof jacket was a joy to wear.

I tested the dark blue version which I really like the look of. A really clean aesthetic with some tidily placed Stromberg branding that sits parallel to the zip.

Usefully, the jacket comes equipped with two front pockets which have zips so you can easily store your valuables.

Playing in the jacket was really easy, no restriction on my swing and was incredibly lightweight. It was really easy to slide on and off in time for the start and end of an unexpected shower and due to the lightweight and flexibility it helped when packing the jacket away into my bag.

It rolls up really easily and fits into your medium size pocket of your bag with no issues.

Overall I really like Stromberg’s latest tech waterproof, looks really smart, pacticial for all year around and a good price point for golf apparel.

PROS

  • Smart
  • Good pocket space
  • Great price point

CONS

  • Fitting is slightly on the large side

Sizes: S-5XL
Colours: Peacock / Tapshoe/castlerock

Peter Millar Winter Wind Gust Jacket

4.5 star review
best golf windbreaker

RRP £175

This jacket undeniably exhibits the brand’s signature blend of style and functionality. Created to combat winter’s bite, this jacket presents a great mix of great design and weather-resistant practicality.

The water-resistant exterior forms a good defence against the elements while retaining a pleasant aesthetic. The jacket’s zip up front and stand-up collar are great benefits in blustery conditions whilst ensuring comfort without compromising style.

Versatility is another key plus point of this jacket with it not just being an item confined to the golf course. I would be happy wearing this from fairway to everyday wear. It has a lightweight feel yet keeps you warm without inhibiting movement.

The jacket has 2 good side pockets which can be used for a golfer’s various needs, making it a very handy piece of equipment on the course.

Overall, this jacket demonstrates a well-rounded golfing and lifestyle outerwear option that combines comfort and performance, albeit at a premium price.

PROS

  • Lightweight – would easily fit in a golf carry bag
  • Easy to swing in it
  • Weather resistant practicality

CONS

  • Expensive

Sizes: S-2XL
Colour: Black, Rainfall, Sport Navy

Under Armour Men’s Storm Windstrike ½ Zip

5 star review
best golf windbreakers

RRP £75

Under Armour says that the Storm Windstrike ½ zip is designed for those people who don’t head to the clubhouse when the weather gets tough out on the course, and you can see why.

The jacket is lightweight but packs a punch, offering you protection from the elements using windproof materials to shield you while using Storm technology to repel water during those showers.

Despite being relatively thin, the jacket offers great warmth with a soft interior material, which also creates a comfortable feel. One small feature that I did enjoy was the interior of the collar had a soft fleece feel, which aided the jacket’s warmth and comfort when fully zipped up.

During the winter months, you’re forever trying to pack your bag ready for all scenarios, and the lightweight jacket means that it’s easy to store, ready for when the weather does indeed take a turn for the worst but still packs a punch in terms of keeping the elements out.

PROS

  • Great fit
  • Lightweight
  • Feels great
  • Good design

CONS

  • No pockets

Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
Colour: Black –Downpour/Grey-Blizzard

Oscar Jacobson Highbank Navy

5 star review
best golf windbreakers

RRP £99.99

I am a huge fan of this Oscar Jacobson Highbank jacket. A full-zip hybrid jacket that can be used all year round.

The detailing around the design of the Highbank is really impressive, with subtle branding of OJ on the front and a really cool design on the inside of the jacket. The true knit sleeves are a great addition, making it very easy to slip on and off before and after the round and very comfortable to wear throughout the day.

The pockets are easy access on the side but don’t have zips, which would be my only qualm.

Playing golf in it was no issue. All of the Oscar Jacobson apparel being released was excellent to play in. It has perfect mobility for all types of swing and really comfortable.

Overall, it is one of my favourite additions for the Autumn/Winter golf ahead. It is lightweight enough to work with multiple layers. An excellent overall design.

PROS

  • Extremely stylish
  • Can be used in multiple conditions
  • Very comfortable

CONS

  • No zip pockets

Sizes: S – XXXL
Colour: Black and Navy

G/Fore
Performer Jacket

5 star review
best golf windbreaker

RRP £225

This is an amazing jacket.

Playing through the winter is generally not fun due to cold winds and the occasional shower, and combine that with wearing a bulky and uncool jacket that is impossible to swing in, and you can start to see why some golfers put their clubs away until spring.

This jacket can change that. It’s lightweight, has 4-way stretch back and shoulders for easy swing mobility and a poly-insulated front that means you don’t feel the wind even when it’s howling.

The pockets are great, and it has an Aquaguard 2-way front zip so that you don’t get wet when there’s a light rain shower.

It’s such a versatile jacket that I’ve been quite happy wearing straight from an evening’s 9 holes out for a drink afterwards, as it’s also just a cool, fashionable jacket.

I highly recommend it!

PROS

  • Stylish
  • Warm
  • Great on the course or in the bar

CONS

  • No cons

Sizes: S/M/L/XL/XXL
Colour: Onyx / Twilight

Callaway Golf Stormfleece Pro Lite ½ Zip Jacket

4 star review
best golf windbreakers

RRP £140

The Callaway Golf Stormfleece Pro Lite ½ Zip Jacket comes in the category of a lightweight jacket to be used in wet weather, and it has its plus points. Firstly, it looks great. The grey, black and lime combination, which has been used across much of the Callaway Golf AW23 collection, is very stylish, especially with the lime accents on the zips and logos.

This is a great lightweight option to help keep the elements out. It is particularly good at keeping out the wind. In the coldest of conditions, this will be needed to use in a layering system, but this is the perfect thickness to allow for this.

Although this isn’t fully waterproof, the jacket is water-repellent, and it is a good option when the rain starts. However, it is not the right sort of garment to be wearing if you are going to be playing golf in driving, persistent rain.

PROS

  • Lightweight
  • Stylish
  • Water repellent

CONS

  • Not waterproof

Sizes: S – XXXL
Colour: Grey, Black, Lime / Navy, Brown, White
