First Impressions

A standard Saturday afternoon for me in winter consists of returning home from a round of golf, coming inside and peeling off my wet socks due to the conditions of a wet and muddy British winter course. For that reason, this pair of shoes are a revelation and have improved my quality of life more than I’d care to admit. J. Lindenberg have released their first ever golf shoe, the Vent 500, and have done so in style.

Following the brand’s philosophy, they have set out to create high-quality products that are optimised for performance on the course without sacrificing style. And overall, I would say that they’ve succeeded in that endeavour.

The Vent 500 golf shoes are a very nice shoe to wear on the golf course and reflect the designer label and price tag in their appearance; I would say they are aesthetically closer to modern trainers than the vast majority of offerings on the market. Therefore, if you like the look of these from the pictures, then they won’t disappoint.

On Course Testing

My first reaction to putting on the shoes is that they feel very comfortable and stable; they are designed based on a runner shoe concept and having a quick jog around the office confirmed this. Whilst I did have some back foot slip issues on the damp, worn driving range mats of the local range I frequent, out on the golf course I never had a traction or stability issue from the custom JL TPU outsole tred.

Having put these shoes through probably the most gruelling wet weather conditions they can expect to be in (bar literally walking into a lake to receive my tee shot), I can confirm these shoes are 100% waterproof.

There is also a good layer of padding within the shoes, which makes it more comfortable than a more traditional golf shoe and warmer, which I prioritise in my off-season rounds.  The only issue I had with these shoes was the juxtaposition of a very sleek golf shoe covered in mud. Unfortunately, my local courses are pretty sodden, and the shoes did become covered in mud very quickly, and the mud does settle into the mesh outer, which requires a good scrub to clean; so, I might suggest that these shoes are better suited for summer or dry golf courses.

The 19th hole

These shoes are a nice neutral colour and would work excellently for a walk in the woods, as they are very comfortable, easy to put on and certainly won’t be getting your feet wet in winter. This golf shoe is definitely one of the best options if you’re looking for a versatile pair to take on and off the course.

These shoes do look similar to a typical pair of trainers, and if you like the look of them, you could definitely get away with wearing them out and about, however, I don’t know if they could ever truly crossover into my everyday wardrobe. I believe the combination of a simple style with excellent waterproofing and comfort makes them a great choice for a pair of all-weather golf shoes, especially if you are looking for a more designer pair.

About the author

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
