First impressions of the Cobra F6/F6+ Drivers

[content_block slug=”cobra-f6-driver-review”]

The launch of the new F6 and F6+ drivers comes hot on on the heels of the release of the King LTD driver and gives Cobra a very impressive line-up for 2016.

REVIEWED: Cobra’s King LTD driver

They’ve also got the new Max range for high handicappers as well so really have got all bases covered.

More from Cobra: New Cobra Max woods and irons

The F6 drivers come with very smart head-covers, which you may not think important, but I feel when you are paying £250-£300 for a driver it should look the business in and out of the bag.

The F6 and F6+ are essentially replacing the Fly-Z and Fly-Z+ from last year and while they have similar technologies – things have definitely moved forwards (or backwards, or left in the middle).

The Tech

Starting with the F6+ driver, we have a very large moveable weight on the sole. This can be moved into one of five different positions.

Move it forwards for a more penetrating flight with less spin, move it back for more forgiveness and a higher ball flight.

Whichever way you have it, the centre of gravity remains incredibly low. The club itself is very light so more weight can be postponed in the sole.

A key technology here is the fact the weight track system is made of carbon fibre opposed to titanium therefore it is lighter. This means the moveable weight itself can be heavier (18g) than most moveable weights you will find on other drivers on the market.

This means moving the weight has more of an impact on the ball flight.

On the F6 driver there are two weights (10g and 3g) which can be moved to have the heavier weight at the front or the back.

Both drivers feature the MyFly loft adjustability, and come in three colours – black, blue or white.

Performance/NCG verdict

Both drivers look stunning at address with the F6+ being ever so slightly more compact.

I left the weight in the back position on both drivers as I know from previous fittings this has suited me better.

This was not a test to see the impact of moving the weights around as we feel that is more a tool for when you get fitted by an expert fitter or PGA pro.
 Â
I don’t think I had my best day swing-wise when testing these drivers out as seemed to be making contact quite near to the heel.

That said, my numbers were still very good which highlights the forgiveness of these drivers and in particular, the speed channel technology which improves ball speeds on off-centre hits.

My ball speed numbers with both drivers were mainly between 140 and 145mph resulting in distances of 240-260 yards.

Considering I didn’t feel like I was swinging it as well as I could, those numbers for me were excellent.

I do prefer the slightly smaller F6+ head but it was hard to split the drivers in terms of their performance.

Overall, I love the look and feel of both although I did prefer the sound and feel off the face on the King LTD but that does cost £50 extra at £349.

With the adjustability and impressive performance on offer here, there’s no way anyone wouldn’t be able to get dialled in to a driver that really works for them.

The colour options are an added bonus too. I’d probably opt for the black myself but the blue looks superb so I could easily put it into play.
