So, do these irons live up to the hype. Let me tell you all about them in our Srixon ZXi7 irons review…
Cracking looking players’ irons that utilise a compact profile to deliver a supreme feel. A feel that is soft and pure.
The progressive groves are a huge plus and, in my opinion, are what help to separate Srixon players’ irons from their competitors. Consistent spin and better all round performance are the product of this technology.

I must say, at address these irons look amazing. It really frames the ball, I’m a big fan and aesthetically they are everything I look for in a players’ iron.
For a players’ iron it does possibly have a slightly thicker top line than what I would have expected and what is usually evident from other brands. Additionally, a narrow sole, short blade and minimal-offset are all things tour-level and low handicap golfers prefer to see in their irons and are all evident here.
It’s a really nicely compact shape that doesn’t look overly bulky but visually feels as though they offer some help. Even if you are at a level where you are gaming a players’ iron having that visual reaffirmation that the irons will still work with you is a big plus.
Whilst testing them at the La Cala Resort in Spain, the sound is what immediately stood out for me. They sounded fantastic. Srixon have used new material in the face of the ZXi7 irons. They have added some strength into the hosel that has allowed them to use a softer material in the face, which ultimately helps to improve the feel, sound and touch that we have come to expect from Srixon over the past few years.
Previous the consensus was that nothing feels like a Mizuno, whereas now that same sentiment is relayed towards Srixon irons. The ZX series have been so popular before and I believe this new iteration are even a step better.

They feel amazing at impact. When striking the ball the irons feel so soft, you know it’s compressed, you know when you’ve hit a good strike and the softness you get out of the middle of the club.
Additionally, I found the ZXi7 irons initiated really good spin and launch to form what I believe is an extremely playable club for a low to mid handicap golfer. Golfers up to and around the 12 handicap region can think about playing these as they aren’t intimidating irons to play or look at, but still have that visual appeal of a players’ iron when sitting in the bag.
Something I have always liked about Srixon irons is they have progressive groove sizes. The three to seven irons have wider grooves whilst the eight irons to pitching wedge have deeper grooves. A more consistent level of spin can be produced as a result, as well as better performance up and down the bag.
I think this technology is what sets Srixon apart from other brand’s player model irons. Some long irons have a tendency to fly low even on good strikes and simply don’t spin enough, that isn’t the case here.
Other things to note, in the new Srixon ZXi7 irons is that they have a new pure frame design on the back of the clubs which is slightly bigger than the previous model which makes the sweet spot bigger improving the feel across the face. Srixon have also included their Tour V.T sole in the design to help the club move through the turf with a smoother glide.
Overall, the Srixon ZXi7 irons would get my recommendation. I have always preferred the look of a players’ iron and these sharp looking irons are no different. They sound amazing, feel incredible and the performance is top quality. Full marks for the Srixon ZXi7 iron.

We were fortunate enough to head out to the La Cala Resort in Spain to conduct some of our equipment reviews. A picturesque resort that is located in the Sierra de Mijas, just 30 minutes from Málaga Airport and 20 minutes from Marbella.

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.
Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.
After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.
Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.
