But, just how good are these latest TaylorMade clubs? I took them out on the course to find out…

TaylorMade Kalea Gold Review: First Impressions
What I like about the TaylorMade Kalea Gold range is that it has been designed by women for women. TaylorMade has an advisory group, consisting of golfers, professionals, teachers etc, who all give feedback on what they think female golfers need.
One of the head designers of this year’s Kalea clubs range was a women, which I think has massively helped the clubs address the things female golfers need from their clubs. Sometimes, I feel, it is hard to know what you need in a women’s golf club, but I believe these don’t make that mistake.
The looks are also impressive, the driver has huge aesthetic resemblance to the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, in terms of the style. There is obviously a few extra touches, with the gold on there, but I think overall it has a really classic look.
For a woman, I think that’s want you want. You don’t want something completely different just because you’re a woman, you want a top quality golf product. This TaylorMade Kalea Gold driver certainly looks like that.
On the other hand, I like how the clubs are styled not to look overly feminine but they do have a different look and fell.
TaylorMade Kalea Gold Review: NCG Verdict
Firstly, it’s probably worth noting what makes these clubs specific for women. They are much more light weight. The club head, the shaft, the grip and pretty much everything is lighter. This helps you to move the club a little bit quicker and launch the ball higher which should ultimately give you more distance.

The spec is also a little bit shorter. Generally, women aren’t as tall as men, so it makes sense for the clubs to be a little bit shorter.
That being said, I do believe there is a big part of the market that could and should be using these that aren’t just women. Seniors, beginners or golfers with slower club head speeds would also benefit from using these clubs due to the lightweight nature and how easy they are to hit.
On the whole, the range is designed to be a bit draw biased because typically people struggle to move the ball to the left.
For the first time in the Kalea range, the driver is a carbonwood. The club face is made entirely of overlapping carbon layers. This is much lighter than traditional club faces, the extra weight savings allow heavier weight to be added at the back and side of the clubs to drive up the forgiveness in the club head.
This year, the driver hosel is adjustable so you can add or take away loft to help dial in your shots and well as opening or shutting the club face.
When we move down to the fairway woods, I like how they aren’t too deep in profile at address. I think it gives you more confidence you’ll hit the ball and not top it. They also look like they have a lot of loft on them to be able to achieve nice high shots that will give you more carry distance.
The hybrid is another club I love the shaping of. It does look quite small at address, which I like but might not be to everyone’s taste.
These irons are a really nice comforting size over the ball, there is enough club to give you confidence you are going to get some help on your shot but also nicely shaped so they don’t look bulky.
I was really impressed with how consistently I struck the ball with these and how much they increased my ball flight.
In the set, the highest lofted club is the sand wedge at 55°. It’s a bit different to the traditional wedge I would carry, I’d generally go for something like a high-toe style that is a bit smaller.
Having said that it has a nice round shape behind the ball, it doesn’t look massive at all, even though the sole is bigger than the clubs I typically use. It sits really nicely.
I thought it might be harder to get a cleaner contact with the wedge with the thicker sole, but I found the shots I hit the club went through the turf really nicely. I also hit the ball further than I usually do with my wedges.
When picking this set, I think it’s worth thinking about how far you want the wedges to go down and if you want to add a specialist wedge to the set as well. Generally, I would recommend people have one specialised wedge that they can use for higher lofted shots.
The putter in this range is the TaylorMade Spider S and I really like this choice of putter head as it is a really stable, forgiving and easy to use putter. I also love it visually and how they have incorporated the colours from the rest of the range. It looks really smart!
Additionally, it features a crank neck hosel which is pretty neutral, meaning it will suit a variety of strokes. The only slight disappointment with the putter is that it is only available it that version, you can’t switch to a single bend or short neck, if you would prefer.

The putter also has the truth path of alignment on the top, helpful with squaring up the putter. Having the white section on the front also aids with framing the ball for better line. I found it easy to hold out with this putter, which is also a massive plus.
Overall, it is impressive to have such a high spec putter as part of the range.
I really like how the range is customisable, so it’s not just a package set. You can get fully custom fit for this range and dial in this set to your game, which I think is particularly crucial.
If you are someone who struggles to get height on your shots, then these clubs are really going to help. Throughout the set that is what they are designed for, they are slightly weaker lofted, they’ve got more weight at the bottom and all that is going to give you more height and launch.
Final Thoughts
These are a really top end, premium product that are really well-made. The clean and neutral aesthetic allows them to be used by everyone, not just for women.
The biggest takeaway I took from this set was just how easy they were to use. TaylorMade have released something that is forgiving, light and easy to hit.
Overall, I would definitely recommend them for female golfers who are looking for those things mentioned above and obviously, I love the fact you can get custom fit and dial them in for your game.
