You’ll be forgiven if you only know Volvik golf balls for their eye-catching coloured golf balls. But, times have changed and the brand has released a golf ball that they believe can rival any of the premium performing options on the market.

The price tag already beats many of its competitors and here’s the lowdown on what you need to know performance wise…

Volvik Condor X Golf Ball Review: NCG Summary

5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The Condor X is Volvik’s premium, tour level golf ball offering. It features a firm 95-compression construction and a four-piece urethane design that places it directly in competition with models like the tour approved Titleist Pro V1x.

It delivers strong launch-monitor numbers, impressive wedge spin, and a feel that comfortably matches other leading tour balls.

PROS

  • Loads of spin around the greens
  • Low, penetrating ball flight
  • Good value-for-money

CONS

  • Geared towards faster swing speed golfers

First Impressions

It offers a clean aesthetic. The logo text is clean and thin, and the Condor X side-stamp presents a tidy and functional alignment aid. Volvik has produced something that looks and feels high-end, with the red design standing out in particular for me.

NCG Review

Let’s kick this review off by going through the tech. The Condor X distinguishes itself from its three-piece sibling, the Condor, through its four-piece construction and its more advanced internal design. It features what Volvik calls a Hyper W Carbonic Power Core, a dual-mantle layer system, and a urethane cover.

Just your average golf technology naming. Whilst we may all be confused about the naming of the technologies, the performance suggests that they work effectively to deliver the speed and spin required from a modern tour-quality ball.

A good short game is what makes the best players stand out and I was impressed with what I saw spin wise. It sit comfortably in the premium bracket. I was able to generate 7,500 rpm of spin with wedge shots which is what I would expect from a high-quality urethane ball – so plenty of stopping power.

Moving further through the bag, I found the performance continued to be impressive. With a carry of 165 yards and a total distance of 180 yards, it behaved very similarly to balls such as the Pro V1 or TP5x when I had a seven iron in hand.

I think most people will be interested in how it performs off the tee. Well with a driver it created excellent speed and a stable ball flight. It generated a ball speed of 160.5 mph and a low spin rate of around 2,100 rpm, which helped to generate a strong, penetrating trajectory.

Overall, I thought this was a very impressive golf ball. It certainly belongs in the premium, upper tier of golf balls on the market currently. My expectations for this golf ball weren’t anything crazy, so to find a golf ball that produces the ball speeds, spin rates, and flight characteristics of a more established tour offering, was a nice surprise.

The softer feel around the greens and off the putter face was surprisingly satisfying. And then there’s the price. It offers genuine value-for-money, delivering top quality tour performance without breaking the bank.

Golfers who generate higher swing speeds or prefer a firmer Pro V1x-style feel will find this ball immediately playable and easy to trust.

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.

What’s In Jack’s Bag:

Titleist TSR2 Driver

Titleist TSR2 Fairway wood

TaylorMade P7MB 3-P

Titleist SM10 wedges

TaylorMade TP Reserve Blade putter
