There are so many stunning views in England, but which do our panellists think are the best?

  • What is the best view in england according to our panel?

Our panel have played a lot of golf ahead of compiling the NCG Top 100s: England list – but what is the best view in English golf in their opinion?

English golf can offers up almost every view imaginable – with plenty of courses providing stunning sea views around the coastline of the country.

Move inland, and you will find even more amazing views, through glorious heather-clad holes, and even some courses with industrial backgrounds.

What do our panellists say is the best view in English golf? Several courses and views received a number of nominations on this one…

What is the best view in England according to our panel?

A number of great golf courses around the UK received several comments from our panellists when it came to the best golfing view…

Joss Powick: The view from the 7th tee at Hindhead looking through the valley at holes 7, 8 & 9 on a sunny winters morning.

Dan Gould: Looking out from the top of Hindhead across Surrey on a clear day.

Daniel Meredith: From clubhouse at Hindhead looking down 1 and 18

Neil White: Isle of Purbeck – 5th hole across Poole Harbour

Greg Webber: The 5th hole at the Isle of Purbeck – the views out over the Solent are magnificent

Andi White: Isle of Purbeck 5th hole – best view ever

Pat O’Connor: The approach shot on the 9th at St George’s Hill!

Chris Healey: St George’s Hill 9th hole – views back up to the clubhouse

Craig Morrison: From the 16th at East Devon, with the Channel and the Jurassic coastline and all of England above it, or so it seems.

Chris Griffiths: East Devon. Spectacular from the 16th tee.

Ed Battye: 6th Tee at Royal North Devon. Heaven.

Jim Banting: 6th tee at Royal North Devon

There were plenty of other nominations as well, and you can understand why…

Neil Gray: The view of the City of London from The Addington is pretty special now the trees have been cleared.

Neil White: 13th Cleeve Hill, I never tire of looking out over the Iron-Age fort toward Cheltenham and beyond.

Dan Murphy: From the 11th tee at Hunstanton, the rippling fairway and a distant flag are your immediate concerns – but take a moment to gaze out to sea and then follow the coastline all the way to the clubhouse.

Steve Watton: As the highest course in England, Kington offers wonderful views in all directions. The view from the par 5 14th tee to the green a long way below, framed by the hills takes some beating.

Chris Myatt: Perranporth – 3rd Tee. Perranporth has the best vistas of any English course I have played and you are first introduced to them as early as the second green and third tee.

Mike Robertson: Anywhere on the property at Royal West Norfolk.

Not much else needs to be said about the view from the clifftops at Sheringham…

David Elliott: Sheringham. Stretch of holes on the front 9 along the clifftops are stunning. The back 9 is not bad either!

David Walker: 8th tee at St Enodoc looking over 16th at the beauty of Camel Bay

Steve Carroll: 13th, West Lancs – I’m a sucker for a sea view and they don’t come much better than the vista of the Irish Sea revealed from this tee.

Michael Verity: I couldn’t choose between Swinley Forest from the clubhouse down 1 & 18, everywhere you look at Cleeve Hill and the 5th tee at Hallamshire, looking over 8 & 11 and the countryside beyond

Dove Jones: The first tee at Trevose – overlooks the entire course out to Trevose Head & Constantine Bay

National Club Golfer and National Club Golfer magazine
There plenty of amazing views at Trevose, including from above as well

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
