“This is the only place on Earth where there is a course by each of those second generations of golden architects,” said ’48 hours in’ host Mike Robertson.

In Florida, there is a golf resort that delivers something that is truly unprecedented anywhere else in the golf world.

Streamsong Golf Resort is that venue and is one of the only places that boasts the work of a number of golf’s modern age golden architects.

NCG Top 100s recent visit, highlighted how the resort offers something rarely seen in the game. Robertson and co-host Tom Irwin made the trip across the pond to check out these championship courses for themselves.

“When people talk about modern architecture, the same names come up constantly; Tom Doak, Ben Crenshaw and Gil Hanse,” Robertson explained.

“This is the only place on Earth where there is a course by each of those second generations of golden architects.

“So, the golf is absolutely world class and you get to play four courses, including The Chain which is a little short course, all by different people.

“It just makes for an amazing golf trip.”

Speaking on the 48 hours in Streamsong YouTube video one of the golf course architects, David McLay Kidd, spoke about how their personalties helped to shape their designs.

He explained how the strategies, the green complexes, and even in the rhythm of each layout is a reflection of who they are as people.

“I was chatting with a guy in the bar last night and he asked if I thought it was true that the personalities of the architects shine through,” McLay Kidd recalled.

“I think he was entirely right. Tom Doak’s course is intellectual as Tom is. It can make you feel a little uncomfortable. Tom is very happy to let you sit in your own silence.

“Gil Hanse has obviously worked on all these classic courses, all the US Open venues. His green complexes are by far the most complex on the property.

“Bill Kerr is one of the nicest people on planet Earth. When you’re playing red the golf course is softer. It’s more welcoming, but no less challenging. Nothing here is a pushover but the golf course is shepherding you in just like Bill does.

“I’m probably pretty confident. I am gregarious. I’m very talkative.

“So, the personalities of the architects are definitely reflected in each course that they have touched. And yet, the core DNA of the property has stayed similar.

“For a golfer travelling here, you are really seeing something completely and utterly unique. The four architects that have probably dominated this generation in a landscape that is unique.”

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
