Augusta will soon have a new world-class golf course that promises to be “America’s next great masterpiece”.
Hall of Famer Tom Watson, who won two of his eight majors just five miles away at Augusta National, has designed one of the two 18-hole courses at Cypress Shoals, which is set to open this year.
The course, in North Augusta, which is just over the state line in South Carolina, is set on a beautiful piece of land with rolling hills and stunning views, and “promises to be a challenging but fair test of golf for players of all abilities”. Watson has taken great care to design a course that is both playable and memorable.
One of the key features of the new course is its use of natural features. Watson has taken inspiration from the surrounding landscape and incorporated it into the course design, creating holes that are both visually stunning and strategically interesting.
There are elevation changes throughout the course, while another standout feature of the course is its bunkering. Watson has designed a variety of bunkers throughout the course, from small, links-like pot traps to large waste areas that will require players to think carefully about their shots.
In addition to the course itself, the new development will include a state-of-the-art practice facility, a clubhouse, and other amenities. The practice facility will feature a large driving range, multiple putting greens, and short game areas.
The clubhouse will be a stunning facility, with views of the course and the surrounding landscape. It will include a restaurant, bar, and pro shop, as well as locker rooms and other amenities. Golfers will be able to relax and enjoy the clubhouse before and after their rounds, making the new course a true destination for golf enthusiasts.
