WITB: Jason Day – Wells Fargo Championship
Jason Day WITB 2018.
Jason Day bagged his second PGA Tour win of 2018 at Quail Hollow and his first since a switch to some new TaylorMade irons.
The former world number one switched from the P750 to the P730 ahead of the Masters.
And they seemed to help as he smoked a 7-iron on the 230-yard par-3 17th to set up a tap-in birdie and all but secure the win.
He had claimed to be struggling with too much height and spin following his disappointing showing at the WGC Match Play.
Day compliments the P730 with the TaylorMade P790 which ranked at number one in our recent Top 10 irons for 2018 feature.
Day is one of TaylorMade’s ‘big six’ when it comes to contracted tour players for 2018 but he had slipped from world number one to 13th over the last 18th months.
So bosses will be delighted to see him notch up his second win with the new TaylorMade M3 driver after his victory at the Farmers Insurance Open in January.
He is expected to move up to seventh in the Official World Golf Ranking.
He opts for an M4 fairway wood before his TaylorMade P790 3-iron.
Then it’s the TaylorMade P730 irons from 4-PW.
He uses three Milled Grind wedges including the 60˚ Hi-Toe that McIlroy, Johnson, Rahm and Rose have also been using.
We have seen Day experimenting with white and black TaylorMade Spider Tour putters but it was the trusty Spider Tour Red model in play at Quail Hollow.
Day favours the TaylorMade TP5x ball and wears full Nike clothing and shoes.
