The return of the red, white and blue
Hello. Before we get to the US Open equipment, it’s been a busy few weeks since my last column most recently testing new drivers from Titleist and Ping. Unfortunately since then the weather has taken a turn for the worse and I can’t remember the last time it wasn’t raining, so if you need something to help you stay dry on the course check this out from Kjus. (See what I did there?)
I’ve also been writing a blog about my tales from playing on the amateur circuit. You can see the latest entry here. It’s about pushy parents.
Anyway, it’s US Open week! Who’s staying up all night to watch it? Here’s some equipment news that has caught my eye ahead of the third major of the year. Expect lots of red and blue and stars and stripes…
US Open equipment: New putter for Xander
Just last week Schauffele had the Odyssey Stroke Lab R-Ball putter in play but this week it has been replaced. Instead he is using a new Odyssey Stroke Lab Tuttle. It certainly worked on Thursday helping him produce an opening round of 66, let’s hope the putter stays hot for the rest of the week…
US Open equipment: new Titleist irons
In the first week they have been made available on tour, numerous Titleist players have put the new Titleist irons in their bags to tackle Pebble Beach. Cameron Smith has gone for the new Titleist T100 irons whilst Jimmy Walker has opted for the Titleist 620 MB’s. Charles Howell III however has chosen to play a combo set of the new irons. Like Smith he has the T100’s from four iron to eight iron before bagging the new 620 CB iron in his nine iron and pitching wedge.
The new @Titleist T100 irons – one of one in a black finish – have gone straight into @camsmithgolf bag @usopengolf the first week they are available. pic.twitter.com/g2oxwANr0V

US Open equipment: Parley make tour debut
Sergio Garcia was wearing the new Adidas Parley Tour 360 XT golf shoes on day one at Pebble Beach. Garcia shot a opening round of 2-under par to start his campaign at the US Open.
Keep your eyes out for more Adidas tour players in Parley over the next few days at Pebble…
US Open equipment: Ace for Sabbatini
From 202 yards Rory Sabbatini made a hole in one on the 12th hole at Pebble Beach. It is the first hole in one at the US Open since 2014 when Zach Johnson holed out at on Sunday Pinehurst.

US Open equipment: TaylorMade for Pebble
This doesn’t need too much explaining…
Six debossed stars represent the six US Opens hosted by Pebble Beach. This year’s championship also coincides with Pebble Beach’s 100th anniversary. TaylorMade’s staff bag for the week marks this milestone with a blue “100” stitched onto the umbrella pocket.
The iconic cypress tree from Pebble Beach’s 18th hole is stitched in green as well as an outlined map of the Monterrey Peninsula with the routing of 17-Mile Drive embroidered on the ball pocket.
You’ll also see the headcovers for this year are equally as patriotic with stars and stripes out in force.

US Open equipment: Patriotic Puma
Puma have decided to go with what they call the “Patriot Pack”, featuring new designs inspired by – you guessed it – the stars and stripes.
The stylish range includes a pair of its popular Ignite NXT shoes, P110 Snapback Cap, a Cobra X Cru headcover and a limited-edition Cobra X Vessel standbag.
Puma ambassadors Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau and Gary Woodland will be dressed to the nines each day in red, white and blue and showing off Puma’s new autumn/winter collection for 2019. Their outfits will also include elements of the Patriot Pack:

US Open equipment: Spieth wearing the blues
Following a strong finish at the PGA Championship, Jordan Spieth’s focus will be shifting as he looks to capture his second US Open title at Pebble Beach.
The course is well known for its stunning views, as the course runs along the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Spieth will wear various shades of blue throughout the tournament, inspired by the waves that crash upon Stillwater cove.
