Matthew Jordan lit up Merseyside on day one of the 2019 British Masters with a remarkable opening-round of 9-under-par – a course record at Hillside.

Here’s what he had to tell NCG after the round:

And the galleries following him were pretty pleased too…

But who is Matthew Jordan?

Here are 10 things about Jordan to help get to know him better…

Young gun: Jordan was born on the Wirral on the January 18, 1996, which makes him 23.

Local lad: He is attached to Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, which is not far from Hillside and goes some way to explaining why he is so confident on the links.

Family man: His grandfather and dad both played golf on the Wirral, with his dad being club champion at Hoylake on more than one occasion.

Walker Cupper: Jordan played in the 2017 Walker Cup in Los Angeles but, unlike his team-mates, decided to retain his amateur status for the time being.

Cloud 9: Which turned out to be a good decision when he won the 2018 Lytham Trophy by nine shots.

Leap of faith: Jordan turned pro in 2018 having reached a handicap of +7, though that didn’t last long: “I got to +7 for two weeks, but realised it was quite hard, so I went back to +6.”

Ranking rise: He is currently ranked 15th on the Challenge Tour, despite only having teed it up twice. He finished tied for 7th and 20th in those starts. His current world ranking is No. 837.

Links lover: In his eight European Tour starts leading up to the British Masters, his best finish came at the Alfred Dunhill Links – where else? – in 2018. He finished tied for 32nd.

Money maker: That earned him his largest slice of a prize pot to date, banking €29,326. For context, he has made a total of €33,880 on the European Tour so far.

What’s in Matthew Jordan’s bag?

After turning professional, Jordan was signed to an equipment deal by Callaway, having trusted their gear for several years.
