AIG became the title sponsor of the Women’s British Open in 2019. Between 2007 and 2018, it was called the Ricoh Women’s British Open.

In July 2020, it was announced that AIG had extended the title partnership through to 2025, including the tournament we have just seen at Royal Porthcawl in Wales, superbly won by Miyu Yamashita.

The prize money of the event has significantly increased in recent years, as per the climate of the sport, which has skyrocketed in this department in recent years.

In 2022, Ashleigh Buhai won her first major and was also the first player to win over a million pounds for her troubles. The South African banked $1,095,000 after beating Chun In-gee in a playoff, which was a significant increase from the $870,000 that Anna Nordqvist won at Carnoustie in 2021.

Lydia Ko banked $1,350,000 for winning her third major at the Old Course in St Andrews from the $9,500,00 purse, which is the same as what American Lilia Vu won at Walton Heath in 2023.

For 2025, the bar has been raised to $9,750,000, constituting a $750,000 increase from 2024. Yamashita will take home $1,462,500, which is the biggest payout in the event’s 49-year history.

Minjee Lee won $1,800,000 at PGA Frisco at the Women’s PGA, and Sweden’s Maja Stark banked a whopping $2.4 million at the US Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.

The Chevron Championship purse stood at $8,000,000 in 2025, $1,200,000 of which was won by Mao Saigo. The Amundi Evian Championship in France also has a purse of $8,000,000.
