A large chunk of the LIV Golf roster are heading to the United Kingdom to take their last chance to qualify for The Open

For those LIV Golf players who still have ambitions to play in the 153rd Open, the last resort for some of them to qualify will come at Final Qualifying.

Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and 2022 Open champion Cameron Smith are among the strong contingent of LIV Golfers who are already exempt in the field at Royal Portrush in July.

As LIV Golf events still don’t have Official World Golf Ranking points, many of the players have tumbled down the world rankings and this has contributed to many of their absences at the majors in 2025.

However, a healthy group of LIV Golfers have played in the Masters, the PGA Championship and the US Open, and the likes of DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Tyrrell Hatton and Carlos Ortiz have come close to glory.

In total, there are 15 LIV Golf players in the Open Championship field, and more could come once the Final Qualifying events over 36 holes on Tuesday, July 1 are finished.

On Monday, June 23, numerous players flocked to Regional Qualifying across 15 different venues in the UK. The successful participants advanced to Final Qualifying.

131 players qualified in this initial stage and will play at four new venues for a place at golf’s oldest major. You can read more about Final Open Qualifying here.

Final Open Qualifying will be played at West Lancashire, Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports, and Burnham & Berrow. There are 288 players entered, and five spots are open at each venue.

There are 17 LIV Golf players entered in Final Qualifying, but this is for now. The LIV Golf Dallas event finishes on Sunday, June 29. With the quick turnaround, don’t be surprised if not all of these players turn up.

Lee Westwood is set to compete for the first time since joining LIV Golf, as is Ian Poulter and his son Luke Poulter. Interestingly, Sergio Garcia has not entered, despite playing at West Lancs in the last two years.

Garcia is currently fourth in the LIV Golf player season-long standings, and the players ranked above him have already qualified for The Open. As per the championship’s new qualification criteria, the highest-ranked player not already with an Open spot through the LIV Dallas event, as long as they are in the top five, will get one.

LIV reserve player Luis Masaveu has also entered at Royal Cinque Ports.

Garcia clearly fancies his chances.
