‘You know me!’ DeChambeau produces wildest finish you’ll ever see at The Open

Bryson DeChambeau was doing Bryson DeChambeau things as he closed out the third round of the 150th Open in spectacular fashion. George Cooper has the details

Bryson DeChambeau produced one of the most bonkers finishes in Old Course history on moving day at The Open, a final three-hole stretch which he described as “adventurous”.

Having soared into contention with four birdies and an eagle, DeChambeau had another birdie putt on the par-4 16th to move to 8-under. Unfortunately – for the American, at least – he four-putted the mammoth green to card a double-bogey.

But the drama wasn’t done there, oh no.

Facing the infamous Road Hole, DeChambeau hooked his tee shot miles left and well, we’ll let you see for yourself how things played out…

Regarding why he was allowed a drop, here’s NCG’s Rules of Golf expert Steve Carroll to explain:

“I had the grandstands in my line and the scoreboard in my line,” DeChambeau said in his post-round interview. “So I could go back out where it was in-between the TV tower, which is a totally different drop as well.

“I could have dropped again, but it would have put me in the fescue. I was like, you know what, I’m just going to leave it.

“Compensation from 16.”

You better believe there was more.

DeChambeau stepped up to the 18th and hit an almost identical drive to that on 17, nearly missing the widest fairway in golf.

It didn’t stop the big-hitter getting up and down for birdie to complete one of the wildest three-hole finishes you’ll ever see in any tournament.

“You know me,” DeChambeau added. “It is what it is. It’s golf. I was able to get a few fortunate breaks especially on 17 and make a beautiful par off that road.

“It was definitely an adventurous few holes. It was just a great four-putt. Awesome.”
