Zach Johnson denies swearing at Masters patrons after outburst
The 2007 Masters champion dismissed reports he had sworn at Masters patrons after a treble bogey on the 12th hole
Former Masters champion Zach Johnson has rubbished claims he swore at Augusta National patrons as “completely laughable”.
After tapping in for a triple bogey six at the 12th hole of his second round, and receiving what sounded like some sarcastic applause, the 2007 winner was caught on camera yelling: “F*** off”.
Quickly shared on social media, it was the low point of a second round 75 that saw him miss the weekend.
But told it was being reported he had sworn at some of the patrons, Johnson dismissed the allegations.
He said: “That’s laughable. That’s completely laughable. I can’t hear the patrons, number one. Number two, I just made a triple bogey on the 12th hole that evidently is going to make me miss the cut, which at the time I knew was pretty sensitive in the sense that I needed to keep making pars.
“If I’ve said anything, which I’m not going to deny, especially if it’s on camera, one, I apologise, and two, it was fully directed towards myself entirely because I can’t hear anything behind me. Does that make sense?”
