Jordan Spieth cards calamitous quadruple bogey at the Masters
Jordan Spieth appeared to be well placed in the fairway on hole 15 at Augusta National before a disaster ensued…
Augusta National is a golf course that can snatch away your hopes and dreams in the blink of an eye.
Jordan Spieth knows this more than anyone when surrendering a healthy lead at the 2016 Masters with a quadruple-bogey on the 12th hole.
This year, the American seemingly kissed goodbye to his chances of winning a second Green Jacket during the first round and this time, it was on the 15th hole.
Spieth wasn’t in position A after two shots on this par 5. Position A would’ve been on the green, but he was sitting pretty in position B with a wedge to the green for his third shot. This went beyond the putting surface. Not great, but again, he wasn’t exactly looking at a disaster.

He continued to chip his ball through the green and it didn’t stop rolling. Like many before him, his ball trickled into the water, and Spieth was forced to venture to the side where he came from to play what was now his sixth shot.
Spieth launched his pitch up in the air and over the green once again. He started walking after his putt from off the green before it stopped as it seemed the three-time major champion just wanted the hole done with.
He added two more putts for a nine and a quadruple bogey. Chaos just feels inevitable whenever Spieth steps on to the golf course, despite his favourable record at Augusta.
The score tied his highest-ever score on a hole in his PGA Tour career.
There was also carnage where Spieth was concerned at last week’s Valero Texas Open when he strategically hit his ball on top of the clubhouse at TPC San Antonio as his line straight to the green on the 18th hole was blocked by a cement drain cover.
Despite carding a 79, all is not lost yet for Spieth at the year’s first major championship. It might be Friday, but Spieth was one of the stragglers who didn’t complete 18 holes on day one, so another 18 holes of hope await him.
